The Donut Peach? Never heard of it.

Is that even an official name? Wikipedia implies it's a nickname.
They are known by many other names, including doughnut peach,[4] paraguayo peach, pan tao peach, saucer peach, belly-up peach, and UFO peach.

I don't know what they call them in Elsewhere, but in the supermarkets of Colorado they've been sold as 'donut peaches' as long as I can remember.

I can't enlighten any further, as I've never tried them (up until I moved a few years ago, I had my own peach trees).

They look kind of weird to me and I've always figured that they're a product of the Fritter Principle: "Hey, let's take these duds that didn't come out right, give them a different name, charge double the price and people won't be able to buy them fast enough!"

ETA that you couldn't make me click your link, but I happened to read your quote while I was replying and I seem to recall them being called Saturn peaches as well. But none of the other names are familiar....

Really, Sprots? I guess I've always just figured that they came from Palisade. We have them all over the place here. My nephew who works at Safeway has done a tour or two through the produce department, I'm going to have to ask him if he knows the provenance thereof.

My guess? He'll just give me that look that says he don't think I'm quite right in the head combined with a world weary 'there she goes again' sigh.....

Astonishing as this seems, since we're on the same side of the Great Divide as Palisade, we rarely get Palisade peaches here. The Krogers here seem to get their peaches from California.

Now Olathe Sweet Corn -- they send enough of that to drown in. Thankfully. Olathe Sweet is the best corn in the solar system -- wonderful, wonderful stuff.

There's an opera about Genghis Khan?

'Genghis Khan: the opera' rocks Mongolian capital

The above story is from 2006. I don't know if that opera has come to New York or if Mike was in a different one.

Mike may not have walked away with a big bank, but his hometown paper has a detailed report of his appearance. There's even some bonus trivia!
Nor was Gomborone's the only local connection to Thursday's episode. The second contestant was asked "Named after its creator, Pullman is what kind of car?" The answer, worth $1,000, was "Sleeping," which the contestant selected. The Pullman family - of which railroad sleeping car patent holder George Pullman was the third of 10 children - lived in Albion for a time. George Pullman maintained friendships with people of Albion and in 1890 agreed to help build a church in memory of his parents. Pullman Memorial Universalist Church, 10 East Park St., celebrated its 120th anniversary last summer.
That's probably WWOQ material, for the rest of the country.

In NYC, of course, a SyndieBAM contestant isn't news. :|

Astoria's in Queens, just a short subway ride from the Millionaire studio. So Mike's a WE/WE®.
