Incidentally, Time Warner must have updated my DVR software. Now the trick of pausing and then hitting the fast forward button once to clear the pause banner doesn't work any more and the damn banner just stays there, hiding the lower part of the screen with the answers.

I dunno how I knew this one, which makes me nervous. I probably would have second-guessed myself and JTQed it.

I was hoping this would really be a question about chess, instead of that just being irrelevant fluff.

Flush toilets were a distractor for me. From what I've read, base camp can get crowded during climbing season and the sanitary conditions get pretty disgusting. I suppose it would take more infrastructure to support that toilet, like a septic system to drain into, than it would to get WiFi hooked up to a satellite uplink. And lots of climbing teams do like to blog about their adventures, these days.

Here's a report about Sharon's appearance.

And someone has a classic quote in the online comments:
I didn't even know this show was still around.

Sharon is a Club Millionaire sweepstakes winner. She always wanted to audition for the show, but it would have cost a lot of money to travel to New York for that. Now, she's here on Millionaire's dime.
I wonder if she applied for a job as well?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Here's another short article about Sharon's appearance. This one makes no mention of her sweepstakes win.

I'm glad that Sharon got the opportunity but I worry about how she'll do because the test, for better or worse, screens out those that may not do well on the show. It's no great predictor (we've seen passers who turned out to be duds on the show) but it's something.

Not sure where I learned this, but I precalled the answer.

No idea. I don't think the audience will, either, so I'll JTQ.
