I forgot too... Wiki says 1999. He'll always be Rich Uncle Pennybags to me.

The star fort design had been in use for over three centuries before Fort McHenry. Among the many purposes of its design, "allowing approaching enemies to be seen easily" is not among them.* Or it's such an oversimplification as to render the real reason unrecognizable.



*The issue of "dead zones" right next to round towers is something rather different; the enemy isn't "approaching" at that point--they're there!
