my surgery

#1 Post by Ritterskoop » Thu Apr 11, 2013 6:34 pm

I see now why they say never to think of any surgery as minor.

Nothing dreadful happened, except for the throwing up afterward, but this is not the lark I imagined, and I'm glad not to be at work for several days.

The procedure is called a chin advancement (genioplasty), which we've done to move the lower jaw and tongue attachment forward so there'll be more room in my throat airway.

The surgeon goes in through the inside of the lower lip, so there are no external lefotovers except some truly festive movable bruises on my face.

Here's a short video of the procedure for the curious:

Yikes!

I wouldn't call sawing off (and sliding forward) a portion of your jawbone minor!

Ouch!

I'm glad nothing dreadful happened. Sounds like it was outpatient; I'm glad for that too.

Take it easy and be well soon.

I couldn't sleep on my back, so yeah, and also gagging on pills, not being able to exercise for very long without running out of air. That's the big one. Plus low-grade jaw pain.

Ouch! I hate to even have cracked lips since it makes it hurt to talk or eat, so I can't imagine how awful you feel!!

We should compare photos - see who has the best bruises! Different surgery but similar outcome without my complication of respiratory distress.

I would think a liquid diet is in order for a while. Hope you well soon and let me know if you need anything!

Just made my first smoothie at home. The one from the store up the street earlier today was better. The ice feels soooo good no matter who makes it!

Chin wrap is off. Some purty bruises and numbness, but I can swallow now.

Get better, Saucy.

Skoop --

I thought I wrote here when I wrote in ghost's thread. And ended up writing in neither.

I hope the surgery helps. The pictures looked scary.

Sending good thoughts for recovery and good smoothies.
