I'm obnoxious and disliked
I have long wanted to be in a production of 1776. I am finally getting the opportunity this summer. Not only that, I will be playing Johns Adams.
Dream show; Dream role.
If you are in the D/FW area the last weekend in June, I'd love for you to come see it.

Mr. Adams, dear Mr. Adams, break a leg!
Yes, I think that might have been an actual quote from many of his political acquantances.

For God's Sake, Cal, Sit down.
Congrats!
I just found out our theatre is going to do Les Mis to open this season, performances in September and October. Now I have to decide whether Valjean is worth the pain and stress he would bring me (if I am even in the running.)

I'm supremely jealous - 1776 was the first stage show I ever saw and I have loved it ever since. Being a cranky Pennsylvanian, I've wanted to do John Dickinson. My Comm. Theatre group considered it for their calendar this year and deemed it "too heavy." Sigh.

The company is a community theatre, so some of the casting is interesting. Jefferson is 5'8". Rutledge (who is mentioned as being 26) is in his 50s.
I am 3 years older than Adams was at the time, and I am 2-3 inches taller.

Congrats, Cal! A minor tidbit-a former boss is a descendant of John Rutledge with the name of, well, John Rutledge! Also, when I went to Charleston to visit folks last year we wandered around the Episcopal church where Rutledge is buried. I couldn't find him, but I know he's there...the original Rutledge, not my former boss!
Well, then

Re: I'm obnoxious and disliked
Niiice. Congrats.
Back in the day, I auditioned for Ben Franklin. The first night, I only read for it once while another guy read 3 times. I had a chance to play in a pickup band that summer before college, and figured I was out of the running for Franklin, so I bailed on the second night of auditions. The next day my buddy (the director's son) told me his dad kept asking where I was. Turns out the 3 readings were to make sure he wasn't the right fit, and he was going to go with me. That was a real "don't give up too early" lesson for me, one I relive every time I watch "1776". Dang, I would've LOVED to play that part.

Re: I'm obnoxious and disliked
I remember seeing "1776" in 4th grade (it was the Bicenntennial) at a local movie theater. I loved it. I'm looking for the movie on DVD.
Our civic theater is celebrating their 85th seaon this fall and the opening play is-Les Miz. That will require a huge cast and a LOT of work. I think tickets will sell fast.

I'm behind the times, but congratulations! 1776 was the first live musical my parents dragged me to, and I've loved musicals ever since. 1776 remains my favorite, though. We have all the original cast recordings and the DVD, and understood every inside joke in "Boy Meets World".
Wish I could make it to see you. Who'd have thought it?

Re: I'm obnoxious and disliked
We closed the show today.
4 performances just wasn't enough, but it is just in time for the arrival of Calvinator Jr.

Hmm. For some reason, facebook pics don't work well here any more. I don't remember that being a problem before. I switched it to a link. I set the pic to Public, so I'm pretty sure everyone can see it.

It's a shame they didn't hold it over for the weekend of the Fourth. I'm surprised this show isn't performed more. I can't remember when a local company around here put on a production and it's a natural for this time of year.TheCalvinator24 wrote:We closed the show today.

John Adams is a great role and I'm sure you did a great job. This is one of the rare plays in which an actor can age through the three lead roles over the years. So, you have Ben Franklin to look forward to in another 30 years or so.
