Tell us about Cedric and the new studio.

I must be one of the few contestants who have played in both studios. On the inside, they look the same. But the new studio's location is more isolated. The original building had studios for other shows like The View, and an employee cafeteria. There were more restaurants and stores in the old neighborhood.

Cedric's a hoot. Unless you're a comedian yourself, you're going to be his straight man. He thought the most interesting thing about me was my former employment. (I retired in February.) But since almost everything I worked on was classified, I couldn't respond to his comments and jokes. I was sure he'd talk about my previous appearance on Super Millionaire, but that wasn't mentioned. He also uses the questions as the basis for jokes. I had a question whose answer wasn't obvious, but could be figured out logically. They encourage you to solve it out loud. I saw "mirrors" in the question and observed that two of the answers contained mirrors; one of them was a disco ball. Cedric joked that I must have been a disco lover back in the day. Unlike most of the contestants this year, I'm not much of a dancer and I know it. Nonetheless, I responded to Cedric, and then returned to answering the question. You can't let that sort of thing distract you.

I don't think they told Cedric the questions in advance so he could prepare his jokes. He's a good ad-libber.

Did they encourage you to joke with Cedric?

They encouraged us to be enthusiastic and show our personalities. In my case, that meant responding to Cedric's jokes.

Did they keep 3 people on deck and not let you know your order of taping?

I didn't know when my turn was coming until minutes before.

How was the food?

I ate breakfast and didn't stay for lunch, but I saw the sandwiches. I thought the food was fine.
