Lyrically Speaking - 1/6/14

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Jan 06, 2014 7:46 am

Attention all Mecca shoppers... I'd like to welcome you to the 2014 LSWE, and hope you enjoy your lyrical experience over the next ten weeks. If you didn't see the artistic official rules, please read them before continuing on in the contest. Today is the first installment of Mecca Monday, featuring the playlist of the Summer CD I forced LB to listen to from May through August last year. Since I hear there are a lot of old fogies on this Bored, I decided to start off with the Dyn-o-mite decade of the 1970's. All of the 70's songs below were played over and over in Mecca stores last summer, and... excuse me for a moment...

We need customer assistance to the bell bottoms please!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back, she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

2. Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be

3. Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young

4. I feel like this is the beginning
'though I've loved you for a million years
And if I thought our love was ending
I'd find myself drowning in my own tears

5. I long to see the morning light
Coloring your face so dreamily.
So don't you go and say goodbye,
You can lay your worries down and stay with me

6. Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.

7. They took the credit for your second symphony.
Rewritten by machine and new technology,
and now I understand the problems you can see.

8. And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

9. You get a shiver in the dark
It's raining in the park
But meantime
South of the river, you stop and you hold everything

10. See the paper lying on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walk on up to the door step
Through the screen and across the floor

11. I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin',
Leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee,

12. Into this life we're born
Baby sometimes we don't know why
And time seems to go by so fast
In the twinkling of an eye

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD to represent the 70's.

5 Point Bonus: What actor is often misheard as the title to Song #1?

Gimme A Squiggly

Well, duh…if it was the 80’s obviously I would have to say Jessie’s Squirrel by the one and only RICK SPRINGFIELD. However since it’s a decade earlier, my choice is Whole Lotta Love by my all-time favorite band, Led Zeppelin!!!

Wow, this was a great game!!! If you would be kind enough to continue using songs from my high school years, I could do really well this season but I'm guessing that's not the case!

We gotta get out while we're young
Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
