More New TV Series

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Fri May 09, 2014 9:30 am

Some of these were announced yesterday, others earlier:

NBC:

Constantine - Based on the comic book series that also was made into a Keanu Reaves movie, Matt Ryan (a little known Welsh actor) plays the title role, a con man turned PI who has to save the world from supernatural evil. Harold Perrineau costars.

Mysteries of Laura - Debra Messing plays a homicide detective who has to deal with killers plus ex-hubby Josh Lucas and precocious twin sons.

Aquarius - David Duchovny as a 60s cop on the trail of a pre-Helter Skelter Charles Manson (this sounds the best of what I've heard).

Allegience - Sort of like an updated version of the FX series The Americans. In this one, an American CIA agent learns that his parents are Russian sleepers who have been reactivated for one last mission. Alex O'Connor, Scott Cohen, and Hope Davis star.

Odyssey - A female soldier, a corporate attorney, and a political activist originally working separately uncover evidence of a massive military/industrial conspiracy. Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, and Treat Williams star.

A to Z - Will McCormick and Rashida Jones play a couple who meet through an online dating service.

ABC:

How to Get Away with Murder - Viola Davis stars as a criminal defense professor, who, along with several of her students, gets involved in a major murder case. This seems to be another version of Scandal.

American Crime - Another series that centers around a high profile murder case, this one "racially charged." Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, and Penelope Ann Miller star.

Forever - A New York City medical examiner (Ionn Gruffudd) is actually immortal. Judd Hirsch costars.

Marvel's Agent Carter - Another attempt to turn the comic books into a successful TV series. This one is set in 1946 as Captain America's former girlfriend (he was buried in ice towards the end of the war) goes on missions for Howard Stark (father of Iron Man Tony Stark).

The Whispers - Evil aliens try to do in the earth by possessing the bodies of children.

Black-ish - Dad Anthony Anderson tries to raise his children with a proper cultural identity. Laurence Fishburne costars.

Galavant - A musical fairy tale as Prince Galavant seeks revenge against the evil king who stole his one true love.

Manhattan Love Story - Love lives of guys and gals in New York City.

Selfie - A woman who achieves instant online notoriety finds out it's not the same as having real friends so she asks a marketing expert for advice on how to connect with people in the real world. Karen Gillan and John Cho star.

ABC also announced renewals of Marvel's Agents of Shield, Once Upon a Time, and Resurrection. Trophy Wife and Mixology were cancelled. Some of these shows will be held until midseason.

Before they steal the plot, they should tell us whatever happened to immortal John Amsterdam, from the 2008 Fox series. :|

Ah, yes. He had enough heartbreak with his relationships in New York. He should have known nothing good would come from fooling around with his twin sister.

And "Hannibal" has been renewed.

He also should have known nothing good would come from fooling around with Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton when he was already married.

For shows I watch/watched:

What about Parenthood?

Renewed:
About a Boy

Gone:
Revolution
Growing Up Fisher
Believe
Crisis
Suburgatory
The Neighbors

Will ABC ever burn off the rest of The Assets or Back in the Game?

Wasn't this show done already? I believe it was called "Seinfeld". And "Friends".

It looks like Revolution is the only confirmed casualty among the shows that I watch, although Parenthood and Friends with Better Lives are still on the bubble. I don't count How I Met Your Mother because they finished telling their story. --Bob

CBS has picked up NCIS New Orleans with Scott Bakula, which had a backdoor pilot on the original series last month.

Other CBS pickups:

Scorpion: An eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age. Robert Patrick and Ernie Hudson star (it's hard for me to picture either of them as the eccentric genius, though).

Stalker: LA cops who go after stalkers. Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q star.

Madam Secretary: A maverick female Secretary of State deals with international diplomacy and crises in her personal life. Tea Leoni, Tim Daly, and Bebe Neuwirth star.

Battle Creek: Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters (Mayhem in the commercials) are mismatched cops in Battle Creek, MI.

The McCarthys: Sports loving Irish Boston family and their gay son. Jack McGee and Laurie Metcalf star.

The Odd Couple: With Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon (who is a much better Felix than Perry is as Oscar).

A number of these recently announced series on all networks may be held until midseason or other series bomb (which is likely).

strangely enough, a lot of these look like I'd even be interested in them!

Right now, my very guilty pleasure is Black Box, a series I predicted I would love to hate. But I am a neurology geek, so it's interesting to see how they get this stuff to "come to life" & how accurate (or inaccurate) they are. The love-to-hate part is of course the title character, Somename Black, who is a gorgeous neurologist who is bipolar & loves to go off her meds, during which episodes she loves to do improvisational dances to music only she & audience can hear & pick up & screw strangers. And the occasional co-worker, who gets disappointed next time they meet & she's back on her meds. And no-one has caught on to her through her entire career. Which has apparently largely been in one place, as she's head of the Center. Oh yeah, her daughter, who is being raised by her brother & his wife as their daughter, looks just like her (good casting) but though a teenager has never been told she's a possibility for this at-least-partially-genetic condition. Well, her grandmother had it, so when she starts looping out they'll tell her it "skipped a generation". Instead of telling her who her mother is.
