And yet CNN.com only states that they 'lost contact' with the plane.

I suspect the plane has made contact with the earth.

Unless they think it's in the Indian Ocean somehow.

Unfortunatly I believe you are correct, I just think it is a tab bit premature to state someone shot it down.

It may be but they are saying it was Russian separatists who used an SA-11 missile.

As often happens when a plane crashes, there were a few people who changed their travel plans at the last minute, either onto or off of the doomed flight. This is the eeriest:
The Sydney Morning Herald wrote:Fate was incredibly kind to his wife, but unspeakably cruel to Malaysia Airlines flight attendant Sanjid Singh.

His partner had been rostered to fly on missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 almost a year ago and swapped shifts because a colleague wanted to fly to China.

But the 41-year-old Mr Singh elected to swap shifts at the last moment and work on doomed flight MH17.
This could be a synopsis for Final Destination 6.

Fifth anniversary of the tragedy.

A month ago, Dutch authorities charged 3 Russians and a Ukrainian with the crime. They'll be tried in absentia because Putin will never turn them over, and we have no leverage to force him to (like Gaddafi had to extradite the Pan Am 103 bomber).

This afternoon Dutch PM Rutte met Trump in the Oval Office. Not a word about MH17. SMH
