I played this weekend at the Orange County Regional in Irvine. It went well (my events were the Saturday Compact Knockout, Bracket I, and the Sunday A/X Swiss, both reported shortly before the list of master point winners. Two events, two Blue Ribbon qualifications, one win, and 41.32 master points.
The Swiss was particularly fun. We went 7-0, knowing that as long as we won or tied our final match, it was mathematically impossible for anyone to catch us. It turns out that we did, in fact, need to win or tie that match (we beat Billy Miller's team by 2 IMPs), because the team trailing us blitzed its last match to pick up all 20 available victory points. --Bob
