If he's never heard of the term, at least that was a pretty fair attempt at reasoning it out. But having done that, the only way the 50/50 could have saved him was if hedgehog had been left as the distractor.

Too bad - "polecat" was what my aunt and uncle in Arkansas used to call skunks. I figure it's either a Southernism or a Southwesternism (although my mother never said "polecat").

I'd still have all my lifelines available.

It could be a Southernism, but we use it up here, my golfing buddies anyway. When someone is shall we say scoring a little better than his handicap, we say there is a polecat around, or a polecat in the shithouse.

I will admit to being called a polecat before. But then, so have most of the other golfers.

Polecat is a term learned from watching Saturday morning cartoons*



*note to Skip the Intern, once upon a time cartoons were only shown on television on Saturday mornings, so the kids would watch them while the parents slept in or ran errands. Felix was not a polecat.
