Mazal tov, Volodymyr Groysman

President Poroshenko of Ukraine appointed Volodymyr Groysman as the country's 16th Prime Minister, succeeding Arseniy Yatsenyuk. The Verkhovna Rada (parliament) confirmed the new PM, 257 to 50 (out of 450).

Groysman was the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and a Poroshenko ally. With Yatsenyuk losing parliamentary and public support, the President endorsed Groysman early this year. After months discussions, Groysman got the backing of enough political parties to become PM.

Groysman is AFAIK the highest ranking Jewish government leader outside of Israel. I'm wishing him "mazal tov" in the sense of "good luck" rather than "congratulations"; PM of Ukraine is a thankless job.

What's his position on Crimea?

He thinks the Russian annexation is illegal. If he didn't, he'd never get to be PM of Ukraine.

Same issue here. If you aren't tough on Crimea, you won't get elected. :P

Mazal tov to Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, 55, the first Jew and first woman elected mayor of the largest city in North America. She'll be the highest ranking Jewish female officeholder in the world (including Israel). Congratulations too to President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
