In the wake of the recent Ghostbusters remake with a female set of ghostbusters, Disney has announced another sex-reversed remake of a popular 80's comedy. Disney has announced it plans to remake Splash, the 1984 comedy that really launched the career of Tom Hanks. However, this time around, instead of a male scientist falling in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah), the plot will feature a human female (Jillian Bell) and a merman (Channing Tatum). I'm sure the storyline will feature ample footage of of a shirtless Tatum and some considerably better computer effects than were in the original, but it remains to be seen whether Bell (who I've found very annoying in the couple of movies I've seen her in) can carry a film and, moreover, whether anyone wants to see a gimmick remake of a moderately popular 30-year-old movie.

At least, this isn't Ronda Rousey desecrating the greatest B-movie of all time, Road House.

How professional of you to at least give it a chance. I'm surprised you even went to see it. Huh? What? It's only been announced? Never mind.

It doesn't matter who's in it. Road House is the ultimate B-movie. Remaking it is like remaking Casablanca. Except they did that, twice, as TV shows.

The career of Tom Hanks was just fine prior to Splash. He also had Bachelor Party the same year.

What goes around...

Ghostbusters sequel: New film set in original universe to be directed by Jason Reitman

The filmmaker's father, Ivan, directed the original 1984 classic

Ghostbusters is getting the sequel it deserves with a brand new film set in the same universe and overseen by Jason Reitman, the son of the original film’s director, Ivan Reitman.

Dated for 2020, it is unknown whether any of the cast – including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd – will return (Harold Ramis died in 2014). The film will be set in the present day.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set [of the 1984 film],“ Reitman said. ”I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.“

Reitman called it “the next chapter in the original franchise”, and assured Entertainment Weekly it will not be a reboot.
