#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Tue Oct 25, 2016 4:44 pm

Jennifer Gantwerker
Scottsdale, AZ
Yoga instructor

All lifelines used

$20K :
Attacking a whaler in the waters just north of the Aleutian Islands, the CSS Shenandoah was known for firing the last shot of what war?
A: Revolutionary War B: Civil War
C: World War I D: World War II
Spoiler
Jennifer ruled out A and B since it would have involved naval powers and the Civil War would be on land.
She said she is aware of USS, but CSS? Shenandoah is an American name.
Jennifer walked with $10K
She said she would have guessed D if forced.

B: Civil War

20K: "CSS" indicates it's a Confederate ship, so the answer has to be B.

I'd be facing 30K with two lifelines intact.

20K: It was painful to watch contestant remark about "CSS" & how "Shenandoah" was definitely an American name, then leave, & guess wrongly when given "afterguess".

I knew it going in, anyway.

"CSS" and "Shenandoah" immediately led me to the Civil War.

Seems obvious from CSS and Shenandoah, but what in blue blazes was a Confederate ship doing in Aleutian waters? So I looked it up -- what a story! They sailed from Northern Pacific waters when they learned of the Confederate surrender and finally surrendered to the Brits at Liverpool because they didn't want to be hanged as pirates. What a story.
