Friend Boston Marathon news

One former co-worker is on a pace to finish in 3:47. This is something like his 6th or 7th Boston Marathon.

My previous boss finished in 3:27. His bib number is four digits, so he is pretty good. However, his ego had him register as [name deleted for self-protection], Ph.D. Who the heck cares if he's got a doctorate in chemistry? Everyone else can barf on their shoes at the finish line as well as he can, if not better.

Nice.

I just found out my insane friend is going to run across the Sahara in the fall. 150-180 miles or so, over six days.

Mom said she has to get her a basket from the Cairo museum shop.

My neighbor has run a 3:25, but he was not ready for the hills and struggled mightily yesterday. He hit the half-way at 1:53, but finished in 2:38 for a 4:31 total - his slowest marathon ever.

He says it is his last - we will see.

My first, last and only marathon was on a hilly course (Rolling Hills in SoCal). But, the race started at the top and ended up near the ocean. I ran the downhill portions too fast and my quads killed me for a week afterwards. I had no idea how to run a marathon and only trained a month (I did it on a dare/bet). I managed to break 4 hours (3:57). But that was over 30 years ago. I don't even think I could even walk that course today or even drive across the Sahara.
