20K: Knew London had been charging cars lots to go to city center. Hadn't read/heard about this development but would have gone for London & been out here.

If it sounds like a ridiculously arcane piece of knowledge for a $20K question, chances are it's asking you something different. Ignore the smog and the cars altogether, and think about which of the four countries use the euro.

Holy cripes. I sussed it out, but I probably would have had the producer tapping me on the shoulder at some point.

On 20k, thinking about the Euro only gets you part of the way there. I believe Denmark also uses the Euro.

On the 30k question, choice A has the wrong number of letters and choices C and D have too many "e"s. --Bob

Show was displaced locally by bowl game. I hope if I'd heard the word euro read I'd have moved off London! It didn't even register when I read the symbol here. Bad.

My mind is in bad shape from various stresses these days, but still.

Doesn't look like it. They're still using kroner.

That's right. Denmark opted out of the Euro and then it failed in a referendum. It does peg the kroner to the Euro but they haven't fully joined the Euro zone.

The countries that use the Euro:
Austria
Belgium
Cyprus
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Netherlands
Portugal
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain

That includes many overseas possessions of France and the Netherlands notably.

EU countries that do not use the Euro right now:
Bulgaria
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
Hungary
Poland
Romania
Sweden
United Kingdom

The ones other than Denmark and the UK are working toward converting to the Euro but with no timetable. They are pretty much currently in the same status as Denmark where they have set the value of their currencies to the Euro but the still issue their own notes and coins. The UK controls the value of their independent currency.

Non-EU countries that have declared the Euro to be official currency:
Andorra
Monaco
San Marino
Vatican City
Kosovo (does not have issuing rights)
Montenegro (does not have issuing rights)
No matter where you go, there you are.

This might be the earliest trivia question I ever knew the answer to.

Ugh! D goes away instantly because of the J. The other three, woulda taken me a minute or two to count all the letters.
