elwing went to Air Traffic Control school to become a controller after the strike. She did very well but decided to tank the final exam because when they told her about her likely assignment and duty hours she didn't think it would work out (I was in seminary at the time in Louisville and she would have been assigned to Nashville, working a rotating schedule of 12-hour, 3-day a week schedule).
