"I Hope You Kill a Lot of Germans"

#1 Post by Spock » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:24 am

This is my version of "Break a Leg" when the 2 youngest head off for Knowledge Bowl. I stole it from a humorous short story by George MacDonald Fraser.

I am guessing that I am the only dad who sends them off with that exhortation ringing in their ears.

Littlest Spock (8th Grade) is on the #1 Varsity team and is the MVP of the group of juniors and seniors and will be going against same.

The Spocklette (Conceived on the Bored and turning 16 tomorrow), is on the #2 team.

Littlest Spock's team got 6th and moves on to regionals.

The Spocklette's team got 21st out 43 or so.

I have to say, from the question that she told me, that I have never been so proud of her.

Question: What Sioux Tribe was at Wounded Knee?

The answer they wanted was :
Spoiler
Lakota
I might have thought too deeply and said
Spoiler
Minniconjou-(one of the 7 branches of the Lakota:)
And I would have argued my case.

The Spocklette was trying to think of Hunkpapa-Sitting Bull's branch of the Lakota.

I am not very happy that she had the wrong branch of Lakota, but a couple of weeks of being grounded will rectify that-but I am happy that she was thinking sub-tribes of the Lakota.

Spoiler
Lakota
was most correct. There were

Hunkpapa
but also other

Lakota
sub-tribes.
Spoiler
Minniconjou
were not there.

Per the Minneconjou not being there.

Of the 7 Lakota sub-tribes (or whatever), Minneconjou is the most correct for Wounded Knee. It was Big Foot's band of Minneconjou that was the core there. Obviously, there were likely visitors-etc from other units, but Minneconjou is most correct.
