CBS Renews Most of Schedule

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Mar 23, 2017 2:37 pm

CBS has renewed 16 shows, to go along with previously renewed NCIS and Big Bang Theory.

It's easier to list what hasn't been renewed. One or two of these may come back depending on how the new schedule shakes out. Others, like Training Day are almost assuredly gone. I think Criminal Minds will be back (there's some contract issues involved; they've got a big cast), and Elementary may return on a limited basis to wrap up the storyline (or might be a candidate for a digital platform).

Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds Beyond Borders
Elementary
2 Broke Girls
The Odd Couple
Code Black
The Great Indoors
Pure Genius
Doubt
Training Day

As usual, my shows get chopped.

I'm surprised to see Criminal Minds gone. Ditto Elementary. I kinda knew Code Black was going when they gave the last ep a "happy ever after" ending for the main character (she winds up adopting/fostering a problem teen, letting teen sleep in her dead kid's room). And Pure Genius was a late season filler, but the kind of thing I enjoyed almost in spite of itself. I have this thing for "latest in medicine" shows.

CM Beyond Borders, on the other hand, is just so awful. Reg CM has largely devolved into a slasher show, but I still watch for characters, turning away at the slasher scenes. But Beyond Borders is just "rescue the American(s) from the evil-foreigners-on-their-own-soil".

And Doubt really was pretty bad. Not the actors; the scripts with their attempts at levity. Note to CBS; silly schtick just doesn't work in legal-enquiry-into-serious-issues drama.

I am proud to say I have never watched even one minute of any of these programs.

So you're to blame.

I saw the first episode of The Great Indoors. I was thoroughly unimpressed, although it was refreshing to see the great British actor/comedian Stephen Fry pop up on an American TV show. His longtime comedy partner, Hugh Laurie, always seems to find work on this side of the pond, so it was about time that Fry got some exposure.

I haven't watched Criminal Minds in years, so no big loss for me.

No surprise that Training Day would be on the chopping block, considering that it was a vehicle for the late Bill Paxton.
