That's one of the things I find fishy about the passengers' account. No way does the flight crew leave him sprawled across three seats during takeoff. --Bob

They weren't taking off.

The guy would have been awakened and straightened out before the plane pulled away from the jetway. --Bob

See, if I pull up to my seat, and I see this guy lying in it, I'm gonna wake him up and tell him to move his carcass. Maybe a little nicer than that, but if there's any issue, I'd invite the flight crew to handle the situation. At no time whatsoever would I sit down in a different seat until asked to by the crew.

When the Baboo and I flew to New York for her BAM appearance, it was 8-9 days after the towers were hit. There was plenty of room to stretch out across seats that morning. Several people did exactly that but we were too excited to even think about taking a nap. I doubt that there were 30 people on a 250 passenger plane.

Yes, but until then what were they supposed to do? They were nice and didn't bother him.

They could have either left them alone or let them pay for the upgrade they requested.
Nowhere does it say they wanted to/were willing to pay for the upgrade. I don't believe the flight crew is able to handle such a transaction. They should have made their request at the gate.

This is not the whole story. I believe most any flight crew would bend over backwards, within reason, to accommodate a couple of newlyweds on their way to their honeymoon. I'd bet they acted like a couple of Hohls.
Yes, it does say they offered to pay for an upgrade. I've seen others do that in the past so United should have been able to accommodate them.
You're full of crap again. In YOUR linked article, there are 3 uses of the term "upgrade." Which of these do you imagine mentions any offer of payment?

Michael Hohl:
After sitting, Holh [sic] said a flight attendant approached and asked if they were in their ticketed seats. The couple explained they weren't and asked if they could get an upgrade, but instead were told they needed to return to their assigned seats.

United:
United Airlines claims they actually tried to sit in an upgraded seat "repeatedly" and they "wouldn't follow crew instructions."

United:
These passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seating which they did not purchase and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats.

I going to call BS on the couple.

Not only were the seats they chose to move to in a better class (Economy Plus, which of course costs more money), but Row 21 has the best seats in the house, according to SeatGuru.com. Make the bum move and sit in your own seat. Or move backwards (if available) in your own level of seating, which I'm sure the flight crew wouldn't care about. But those couple of rows around the exit rows that have more leg room are guarded like a hawk, and that's true of all airlines.

I think I'd be more embarrassed that I used the word 'i's' on a public forum.

United and Dr. Dao have reached a confidential settlement of Dr. Dao's claims.

In other news, Southwest Airlines has announced that it will stop overbooking flights. --Bob

Yep. His head popping up somewhere is one of my comic's recurring gags...
