Alabama governor Robert Bentley, amid an impeachment trial conducted by his fellow Republicans,
is expected to resign from office by the end of this week, possibly to avoid both impeachment and criminal conviction.

Bentley officially resigned at about 5 PM Central Time yesterday. Lt. Governor Kay Ivey was sworn in as the new governor at around 6 PM Central.
