RIP Roberto De Vicenzo

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Jun 01, 2017 1:49 pm

Hall of Fame golfer who won 230 tournaments in his career, most in his native Argentina, but is better remembered for the one he didn't win. He actually tied for first in the 1968 Masters and would have qualified for a next-day playoff. However, he signed an incorrect scorecard that was filled out by his playing partner (as was the custom then) and was penalized a stroke because his partner wrote down a "4" instead of a "3" on one hole (he had to accept the higher score; if he'd signed a lower scorecard than his actual score, he would have been disqualified). His comment has become famous in golf lore, "What a stupid I am."

Age 94.
