26. NICCOLINO LOCCHE + 50. DOLPH SCHAYES = Colin Hay, lead singer of Men At Work (Australia)

94. COTTON MATHER + 2. ARETHA FRANKLIN = Otto Rank (Freud)

For the longest time, I kept looking at Rank and thinking of J. Arthur Rank.

Back to the shameless look-ups on the clues because we need more names to play with.

34. This Greek philosopher was head of the Neoplatonic school at Alexandria when she was murdered by a mob of Christian zealots.

HYPATIA OF ALEXANDRIA. Looking for somebody with the first name of Pat.

35. Speaking of French writers – as we were back in Question #24 – this dramatist had his greatest success with a 1636 tragicomedy about a medieval Spanish hero.

PIERRE CORNEILLE, write of Le Cid (El Cid). Looking for somebody with the surname of Neil or Neill.

62. Speaking of people who were executed – as we were back in questions #8 and #9 – this young nobleman was hanged, castrated, disemboweled, drawn and quartered for organizing a “hunting party” that was actually a cover for the Gunpowder Plot.

EVERARD DIGBY. Vera is there in the first name, and we have Gown on the associated word list. I know this is a poor choice of words, but we're looking for a Wang.

64. This warrior was the founder and first shogun of the Kamakura dynasty.

MINAMOTO YORITOMO. Did early Japan follow the rule of "last name first, first name last" that is tradition in China and the Koreas? That Tom in Yoritomo may be the missing Tom that we need for Tom Ridge. There's also an Ito there, but I don't see any associated words to link up with Lance Ito. There's an Ina in the forename, but I don't see any associated words to link up with Ina Garten.

74. Speaking of Nobel laureates – as we were in questions #3, #43, and #49 – this endocrinologist fled from the invading Nazis in the company of the president of Poland; four decades later, he shared a Nobel Prize for his work with neurohormones.

ANDRZEJ (ANDREW) SCHALLY. Plenty of people with the surname of Hall.

The Japanese still put the family name first in their own language; they reverse it when they speak English.

I went with tradition here, hoping somebody would catch that.

You've done that in previous games, which is why I asked if it applied to Japanese names as well.

31. This German archaeologist made a name for himself with his study of the Mycenean pottery found on the island of Aegina; his son made a name for himself as an opera conductor.

I kept wanting to put Heinrich Schliemann in here, but I couldn't make anything out of his name other than Ric. After further digging, I found that it was somebody who was in Schliemann's expedition: ADOLF FURTWANGLER. That completes our Vera Wang match.

61. This cable news anchor caused quite a kerfuffle due to her poor choice of words in describing a shooter who attacked police. Very, very poor.

It took me a while to find this one, but it's FREDRICKA WHITFIELD. She gives us a Red and/or a Rick to play with. With the Associated Words remaining, one Rick sticks out at me:

61. FREDRICKA WHITFIELD + 8. GABRIEL PROSSER = Rick Ross (Hip Hop)

The last unsolved clue is #4, the one concerning a quote in Frank's play. Unless somebody here either remembers that play or knows what piece of art involves an owl, I have a feeling that we may get the name of that painter only through reverse-engineering. Find the rest of the matches, then figure out what name we're missing for the final match.

With the other known info, I've found these matches:

34. HYPATIA OF ALEXANDRIA + 55. DAN HEDAYA = Pat Day, the legendary jockey (Horse)

5. FERGUSON JENKINS + 74. ANDRZEJ (ANDREW) SCHALLY = Gus Hall, leader of the American (Communist) Party

1. NAPOLEON BONAPARTE + 57. WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT = Leo Ryan, the congressman killed while investigating cult leader Jim (Jones)

3. RABINDRANATH TAGORE + 70. SAVION GLOVER = Nat Love, slave turned (Cowboy)

There are still two names that need to be used a second time, but here are the names and words (aside from #4) that haven't been used yet:

9. GIORDANO BRUNO -- Dan ___?
19. BARTOLOMEU DIAS -- Art ___?
46. ANN DUNWOODY -- ___ Wood?
49. ISADORE RABI
92. FRANCOIS RABELAIS
96. WALLACE CARROTHER -- ___ Roth?
100. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER -- ___ Howe?

Unused Words (one goes to Ken Lay):
Houston
Bear
Crow
Sheppard
Stone
Fraud

I didn't think that description would be so hard. This is one of my favorite painters of the Northern Renaissance.
9. GIORDANO BRUNO -- Dan ___?
19. BARTOLOMEU DIAS -- Art ___?
46. ANN DUNWOODY -- ___ Wood?
49. ISADORE RABI
92. FRANCOIS RABELAIS
96. WALLACE CARROTHER -- ___ Roth?
100. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER -- ___ Howe?
There's a significant misspelling in one of these names.
Unused Words (one goes to Ken Lay):
Houston
Bear
Crow
Sheppard
Stone
Fraud
One of these words actually goes with an existing match.

ART HOWE managed the Houston Astros for a while.

Mr. Rabi's first name is actually spelled Isidor

Wallace's last name is spelt Carothers.

Sid Abel played hockey, but I don't see an obvious associated word.

Ken Lay must be with Fraud.

The painter, with the northern Renaissance clue, must be Heironimus (sp?) Bosch, which gives us RON and Ann Dunwoody gives us WOOD , for the famous Rolling STONE.

Sid Abel played for the (Detroit) Red Wings, so that word should be removed from Kid Rock.

Kid Rock should match with Sheryl (Crow), as they had that huge duet many years ago--"Picture".

And speaking of famous duets:

9. GIORDANO BRUNO + 66. MACKENZIE PHILLIPS = Dan Hill, who did "Can't We Try" with Vonda (Sheppard).

Final match:

30. EVANGELISTA TORRICELLI + 96. WALLACE CAROTHERS = Eli Roth, who played "The (Bear) Jew" in Inglorious Basterds.

Thanks as always, Frank!

Nice job, everyone. I told you finding the Tangredi wasn't going to be so hard on this one.

The next one - a lyrics game that I actually have ready to go - will prove tougher.
