#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Tue Jun 13, 2017 2:24 pm

Comment on Bonus- On this bored element 118 will always be known as Kryptonite. Seutonius & I settled that issue long, long ago. In the land of Go, actually.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

1. A deficiency in what mineral can cause hypokalemia?
A. Zinc
B. Potassium
C. Iron
D. Sodium

I know this way too personally. I myself have had a potassium deficiency since I was a teenager... so, needless to say, I've had to eat thousands of bananas more than any normal human being should in order to alleviate the lightheadedness and the leg cramps and all of that. The constant need for bananas has made me self-conscious, as I am often surrounded by bigots who get personal joy out of dehumanizing innocent people and are itching to make the obvious monkey references... not unlike the baseless self-serving persecution foisted upon the Bored by Beast, Estonut, jarnon, Bob#s, and Weasel during the past five days. Nonetheless, my life and this game go on as scheduled. Both my life and this game MUST go on, full speed, in direct defiance of the prejudice. Otherwise, the terrorists win.

2. What color is a giraffe's tongue?
A. Blue
B. Red
C. Green
D. Black

I didn't really expect anybody to know the color of a giraffe's tongue. When was the last time you look in a giraffe's mouth, huh? I wouldn't have known this answer myself if I hadn't looked it up.

3. You know Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin. But did you know that there are other temperature scales in the world? Which of these is not the real name of a temperature scale?
A. Rankine
B. Leiden
C. Delisle
D. Becquerel

4. What is another name for Bright's disease?
A. Cirrhosis
B. Meningitis
C. Nephritis
D. Bronchitis

5. Which of these qualities would make a fish "anadronous"?
A. It can change sex
B. It can spawn upstream
C. It has natural camouflage
D. It has a flat body

You definitely don't want to confuse "anadronous" with "androgynous".

6. Aqua regia, a liquid known since the 8th century to dissolve precious metals, is a contribution of two acids--nitric and what?
A. Hydrofluoric
B. Sulfuric
C. Phosphoric
D. Hydrochloric

7. How many vaginas does an adult female kangaroo have?
A. Zero
B. One
C. Two
D. Three

You know it's not a good quiz unless there's at least one question about animal genitalia. Again, nobody would know this cold unless they had looked it up somewhere before... because I know that nobody on the Bored is going around peeking inside of kangaroo pouches.

8. Pluto now has five natural satellites revolving around it. Charon is the largest and the first to be known. Which of the names below does not belong to one of the four newly discovered moons?
A. Haumea
B. Hydra
C. Styx
D. Nix

That's a dwarf planet, located about 350 million miles past Pluto's orbit. By the way, Kerberos is the fifth moon of Pluto.

9. Zolpidem is a drug that is better known by what trade name?
A. Ritalin
B. Ambien
C. Viagra
D. Zoloft

Nihonium (Nh) is #113, moscovium (Mc) is #115, tennessine (Ts), is #117, oganesson (Og) is #118

Tennessine and oganesson are the first elements in about 75 years not to get a name ending in -ium. That's because tennessine is in the halogens group (where the names traditionally end in -ine) and oganesson is in the noble gases group (where the names traditionally end in -on).
