its about 1/2 the size of Brewster County Texas
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The biggest cruise ship I can find has a displacement of about 100,000 metric tons. That means this 'berg, in rough terms, is as big as 10 million cruise ships.

Brewster County is about 6000 square miles. Convert that to square meters and you get about 15 billion. That means you'd have to dig down about 60 meters, or nearly 200 feet, to create an object the size (volume, which is the only "size" that matters here) of this iceberg.themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:its about 1/2 the size of Brewster County Texas
Remember the old adage about 90% of the iceberg being below the surface?

That's about the volume of Lake Michigan. It's 620 feet thick and has 277 cubic miles of ice.

It's already floating, though, right? Which means that it won't have any (direct) net effect on sea level. The issue is the additional land-bound ice that it's currently holding back. --BobBob Juch wrote:That's about the volume of Lake Michigan. It's 620 feet thick and has 277 cubic miles of ice.
