TEN!, Week Five, Monday

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Mon Jul 10, 2017 2:24 pm

New week, new sponsor, new questions. The questions will get a little harder in these final two weeks... but away we go! Since that line was made famous by Jackie Gleason, it gives us a nice segue to today's subject.

TELEVISION

It's all about the boob tube, and I don't mean FAUX News. Deadline is Wednesday at 4:30 PM Eastern.

3. "Fire up a colortini, sit back, relax, and watch the pictures now as they fly through the air." What talk show host was associated with that line?
A. Dick Cavett
B. Tom Snyder
C. Steve Allen
D. Phil Donahue

4. Who co-wrote the song that was used as the theme for CBS's word-search game show "Now You See It"?
A. Tom Lehrer
B. Bill Cosby
C. Jerry Lewis
D. Alan Thicke

5. Speaking of TV themes, what is the name of the jazz tune that was used as the theme to the long-running sitcom "Taxi"?

B. "Jessica"
C. "Monica"
D. "Angela"

6. Whose badge numbers were 730 and 763?
A. Simon & Simon

C. Rizzoli & Isles
D. Starsky & Hutch

7. Though Robert Stack hosted the series for over a decade, who hosted the pilot for NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries"?

D. Peter Falk

8. The Barry Humphries character Dame Edna Everage has four children. Which of these is not the name of one of them?

9. What future "Saturday Night Live" star was the announcer on the short-lived 1980s musical quizzer "The Pop 'n Rocker Game"?
A. Adam Sandler
B. Phil Hartman

BONUS: In March, FOX's long-running sitcom "New Girl" had a Cosmo Kramer moment when it finally revealed the first name of Zooey Deschanel's roommate, Schmidt, played by Max Greenfield. What is Schmidt's first name?
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

1. Name the TV producer who appeared at the end of most of his programs, typing at his typewriter and throwing the paper into the air.
A. Aaron Spelling
B. Quinn Martin
C. Donald Bellisario
D. Stephen Cannell

2. What was the name of the short-lived spinoff of "The Golden Girls"?
A. "The Golden Palace"
B. "The Golden Rule"
C. "The Golden Years"
D. "The Golden Shower"

"The Golden Girls" + hotel - Bea Arthur = meh. The other two spinoffs, "Empty Nest" and "Nurses", were more successful.

A. Tom Lehrer
B. Bill Cosby
C. Jerry Lewis
D. Alan Thicke

Although Alan Thicke did write a couple of game show themes in the 1970s--including the original "Wheel of Fortune" theme--Cosby wrote this one. The song was called "Chump Change", and Cosby co-wrote it with Quincy Jones.

5. Speaking of TV themes, what is the name of the jazz tune that was used as the theme to the long-running sitcom "Taxi"?
A. "Theresa"
B. "Jessica"
C. "Monica"
D. "Angela"

"Jessica" was a distraction, as that Allman Brothers instrumental is the theme to BBC's long-running automotive series "Top Gear".

6. Whose badge numbers were 730 and 763?
A. Simon & Simon
B. Cagney & Lacey
C. Rizzoli & Isles
D. Starsky & Hutch

In case you thought this was an impossible question, their badges appeared prominently in the opening credits.

7. Though Robert Stack hosted the series for over a decade, who hosted the pilot for NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries"?
A. Raymond Burr
B. Vincent Price
C. James Caan
D. Peter Falk

8. The Barry Humphries character Dame Edna Everage has four children. Which of these is not the name of one of them?
A. Bruce
B. Lois
C. Norman
D. Valmai

That was actually the name of "her" late husband.

9. What future "Saturday Night Live" star was the announcer on the short-lived 1980s musical quizzer "The Pop 'n Rocker Game"?
A. Adam Sandler
B. Phil Hartman
C. Tim Meadows
D. Kevin Nealon

Adam Sandler actually got his start on the more well-known game show "Remote Control"... as did Denis Leary and Colin Quinn.

BONUS: In March, FOX's long-running sitcom "New Girl" had a Cosmo Kramer moment when it finally revealed the first name of Zooey Deschanel's roommate, Schmidt, played by Max Greenfield. What is Schmidt's first name?

Winston

Incidentally, the roommate played by Lamorne Morris is also named Winston.
