1. To which African country was Shirley Temple Black an ambassador?
A. Cameroon
B. Angola
C. Zimbabwe
D. Ghana

She was also an ambassador to Czechoslovakia, shortly before it split.

2. Of these four states that allegedly voted for odious sewer-siphoning gussetmuncher Donald Drumpf last November, which one currently has a Republican governor?
A. Louisiana
B. Missouri
C. Alaska
D. Pennsylvania

Though the Show-Me State has a long history of electing Democratic governors, Eric Greitens is a Republican. Louisiana (John Bel Edwards) and Pennsylvania (Tom Wolf) both have Democratic governors, while Alaska's governor (Bill Walker) is an independent.

3. Australia has had four prime ministers over the past seven years--three in 2013 alone. Malcolm Turnbull has been PM since 2015. His three predecessors--Tony Abbott, Julia Gillard, and Kevin Rudd--were each in power for parts of 2013. Put them in chronological order.
A. Gillard, Abbott, Rudd
B. Rudd, Abbott, Gillard
C. Gillard, Rudd, Abbott
D. Abbott, Rudd, Gillard

One of the choices wasn't Rudd, Gillard, Abbott. That's because Rudd both preceded and succeeded Gillard. Rudd served from December 2007-June 2010, then Gillard served from June 2010-June 2013, then Rudd returned for three additional months before Abbott came to power. That ambiguity is why I avoided Rudd, Gillard, Abbott as an option.

4. Fill in the blank: Gary Johnson's 2016 presidential campaign derailed after he infamously asked a TV journalist, "What is ___?"
A. Brexit
B. Aleppo
C. Obamacare
D. Twerking

5. The Volstead Act paved the way for prohibition of alcohol in the early 20th century. The act was named for Andrew Volstead, a congressman from what state?
A. Idaho
B. South Carolina
C. Connecticut
D. Minnesota

Volstead was defeated for re-election in 1922, two years after the 18th Amendment went into effect.

6. Excluding royalty, what was the first country to have a female head of government?
A. Botswana
B. Israel
C. Sri Lanka
D. Argentina

Her name was Sirimavo Bandaranaike. She served eighteen non-consecutive years as prime minister, starting in 1960.

7. Which Watergate figure had a second life as a mystery novelist?
A. E. Howard Hunt
B. Chuck Colson
C. Donald Segretti
D. Jeb Magruder

He wrote over forty novels in his lifetime--some under pseudonyms such as P.S. Donoghue and David St. John.

8. After Sonny Bono was killed in a skiing accident in 1998, a fellow TV star of the 1970s unsuccessfully ran against Sonny's widow for the open congressional seat. Who was it?
A. Carroll O'Connor
B. Mike Farrell
C. Ralph Waite
D. Ed Asner

9. How many years currently constitutes a full presidential term in France?
A. 5 years
B. 6 years
C. 7 years
D. 8 years

It used to be 7 years, but the country changed the law about 20 years ago. Jacques Chirac's second term was the first to last only 5 years.

BONUS. Eight new U.S. senators took office in 2017. One is Luther Strange, who was appointed to fill the vacancy of lying racist by day and Keebler elf by night Jefferson Beauregarde Sessions III. Name any two others.

Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), John Kennedy (R-LA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Todd Young (R-IN)
