Prayer for Senator McCain
I'm not the only one who noticed that Senator McCain hasn't been himself lately. Very sadly, the reason for his downturn is as bad as it gets.
John McCain, Republican senator from Arizona, diagnosed with brain tumor
This is the same kind of tumor that took the life of Senator Kennedy. But McCain is tough as nails.

His questioning of Comey showed him to be really out-of-it, functionally. And his party did not reach in to save him, which puzzled me.
I suspected something was physiologically wrong,.
He obviously was never my candidate, but he's a man of his own kind of integrity & I wish him through this with grace.

I came to admire him during the 2008 campaign, though he had surely showed his character long before that and since. I am rooting for him and his family.

Re: Prayer for Senator McCain
Brain cancer is tough, but McCain is a fighter and one of the few politicians around who is universally admired, even by those who disagree with his policies on an issue. Here's hoping he'll pull through.
I'm not sure if it's the same type of brain cancer, but Valerie Harper went public with her diagnosis over four years ago and she's still around.

My best wishes for him.
I hope he fights so that all Americans can have the same level of medical care he has.

Re: Prayer for Senator McCain
It is definitely not the same kind of cancer. Harper has a very rare type which attacks the meninges. McCain's is a glioblastoma, the same type that killed Ted Kennedy. Harper's case appears to be almost miraculous, but her form is rare enough that there are not too many doctors who will say what the prognosis is after diagnosis -- just that it's not curable. McCain's, on the other hand, has a median survival rate of about 18 months -- which is almost exactly how long Kennedy lasted after diagnosis.silverscreenselect wrote:Brain cancer is tough, but McCain is a fighter and one of the few politicians around who is universally admired, even by those who disagree with his policies on an issue. That doesn't mean there can't be a miracle, or that McCain won't fight it as hard as he has fought all the other obstacles in his life. But given that it already seems to have affected his brain function, I hope he will ask to be replaced as senator, so he can concentrate on that fight.

Re: Prayer for Senator McCain
It looks like Senator McCain isn't the only Senator to take time away from a cancer fight to cast a vote in the health care debate. According to this thread, Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii is battling Stage 4 kidney cancer and is recovering from her second surgery to remove a rib. She joined all of her colleagues to cast a vote. --Bob

Re: Prayer for Senator McCain
I usually don't agree with Senator McCain. His views are a long way to my right and I think he's usually much less of a maverick (particularly on domestic policy) than he's given credit for. I even contributed to his opponent last year.
But for tonight, he is my hero. Thank you, John McCain. --Bob

John McCain had his Clair Engle moment. I can't help but think that McCain is now thinking about what sort of legacy he wants to leave behind.Bob78164 wrote:I usually don't agree with Senator McCain. I'd like to think the email I sent him urging him to ensure that all Americans had the same quality of medical care available to him might have helped a bit.silverscreenselect wrote:John McCain had his Clair Engle moment. GOP Sen. Ron Johnson: McCain's brain tumor might have been factor in no vote on health care
No Senator Johnson, Senator McCain's position on health care reform has been clear and consistent. And you're unworthy to shine his shoes.

The phrase "horses' ass" comes to mind here. I don't agree with all of Sen. McCain's viewpoints, but I admire the hell out of the man.

While I honor Senator McCain's service to our country, and I wish him good health, he should have left the Senate a long time ago. He is the epitome of the swamp.

Re: Prayer for Senator McCain
I got this point from BJ in another thread. To be an official part of the resistance, you need to respond to anything with a juvenile 'joke' about trump. Let me try:silverscreenselect wrote:If McCain is the swamp, then the people that Trump has brought in are more akin to the Creature from the Black Lagoon.flockofseagulls104 wrote:While I honor Senator McCain's service to our country, and I wish him good health, he should have left the Senate a long time ago. Trump is a doo-doo face.
There, am I now accepted as a part of the resistance?
