RIP June Foray

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Jul 27, 2017 4:16 am

Her face was unfamiliar, but if you grew up in the 50s and 60s, you remember her voice. Foray provided the vocals for Rocky the Squirrel and Natasha on the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, plus a whole lot of other animated characters. On a more serious note, she was the voice of Talky Tina on a well-known Twilight Zone episode.

Age 99.

RIP lovely June Foray.

The voice of my childhood. I was frightened of & could never stand those other 50s cartoons, & today's Eddie Murphy/Robin Williams-modeled (& often voiced by) crass cartoon sidekicks leave me cold, but Rocky & Bullwinkle, though plenty sarcastic, which I *did* get as a child, remained sweet.

Did a lot more than these -- she was on par (if not superior) to Mel Blanc in range of character voices.

She was the last of the "golden age" of animation voiceover artists.

One of my favorites among many great characters she voiced was the "momma ape" of the couple that the tipsy stork mistakenly delivered Bugs Bunny to. Bugs, never one to pass up an opportunity to cause mischief, deliberately goaded the "Daddy ape", hilariously named Elvis, into trying to cause harm to his unwanted "son", which would result in "Momma" beating the crap out of hubby. I can hear Foray's voice now..."Elllll-visss!"
