OK, here's a headscratcher

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Wed Aug 16, 2017 8:45 am

One of the biggest food-related things out of Atlanta, other than Coca-Cola, is Chick-Fil-A. So, being a good business that they are, and good stewards to the community (they do sponsor several college games there each year), they set up a restaurant in the new Mercedes-Benz Dome, whose primary tenants are the NFL Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons, who normally play their games on Sundays.

And, of course, Chick-Fil-A doesn't open on Sundays. And won't here, either.

Oops.

There must be some other events scheduled for Sat.

Never having been to a Chick-Fil-A, & not being inclined to because of their bigoted positions, & because I don't see them around here anyway, I'd still bet their sanitation record, if nothing else about them, will be way above what usually lurks in stadia.

Fast food joints with a national rep to maintain have to stay on top of that, or word gets out all over.

Boston proudly boasted that Fenway came 2nd in the nation in stadium food cleanliness, whereas the stadium at the bottom of the rankings was about on a par with "let's scrape those chocolate-looking things out of the cat-box & sell them".

The Falcons are the primary tenant but they only play 10 home games a year including pre-season. Atlanta United, the new soccer team also owned by Arthur Blank, will play at least 17 home games there. The vast majority of those will be on Saturday or Wednesday. Atlanta United is averaging over 46,000 per game so far this year playing at Bobby Dodd stadium. There is a good chance that more people will go to an Atlanta United game in the new stadium than will attend a Falcons game.
No matter where you go, there you are.

This year the Falcons play two pre-season home games, on a Saturday and Thursday and one regular season Thursday home game.

Other events at the stadium: FSU-Alabama football (Saturday); Georgia Tech-Tennessee (Monday); Garth Brooks (Thursday); SEC Championship (Saturday); Celebration Bowl (Saturday); Peach Bowl (Monday); College Football Championship (Monday).

Wouldn't that be ironic is the Peach Bowl were on a Sunday, given it is the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Ironic but unlikely, since the major bowl games tend not to schedule on a Sunday when the NFL is still playing. This year, for instance, when January 1 is on Monday, there are no bowl games on Sunday, December 31. Three of the "big 6" bowl games are on January 1, two are on Saturday, December 30, and one is on the day before.

BTW - the Rose Bowl is never played on a Sunday, either. Never has, never will.
