1891 Poetry Collection-Henry Ford

#1 Post by Spock » Thu Aug 31, 2017 8:12 am

This is kind of neat. Somewhere along the way, I bought an 1891 book called "Poems of History" and I page through it once in awhile. Never paid much attention to the metadata.

However, last night I looked at the title page and it says

"Chosen and Annottated by- Henry A. Ford, A.M."

Published in Detroit, Michigan by the F.B. Dickerson Company in 1891.

It has to be a different Henry Ford because the preface was written in 1883 and he talks about how he had felt for many years the need for a poetry collection of this type. The "Henry Ford" was born about 1860.

It does appear to be a different Ford, although he does list his address as Detroit, MI inthis blurb.

His history of Hamilton County, OH is cited in several historical works.

Apparently an Amherst College alum, Civil War vet and POW, and one of them thar Commie teachers. :)
