Miami has lost 80 games so the Marlins cannot win more than 82 games. Washington has won 92 games so Miami cannot win the National League Eastern Division. Los Angeles and Arizona each have won at least 88 games so the Marlins will finish behind at least one non-division winner in the National League Western Division. Chicago has won 85 games so Miami will finish behind the Cubs. St. Louis and Milwaukee each have won 81 games and they finish the season with three games against each other, so at least one of the Cardinals or the Brewers will win at least 83 games this season and Miami will finish behind at least one non-division winner in the National League Central Division.

The Marlins and their fans survived some gruesome weather but they couldn't survive the schedule. Miami has been toastified. --Bob

You should be more specific. At least 3 teams still in contention are by various bays.

Toronto has now lost 83 games so the Blue Jays cannot win more than 79 games. Boston and the Yankees have each won at least 86 games so Toronto cannot win the American League Eastern Division and will finish behind at least one non-division winner in that division. Cleveland and Minnesota each have won at least 80 games so the Blue Jays also will finish behind at least one non-division winner in the American League Central Division.

Woe, Canada. Toronto has been toastified. --Bob

I just saw that Seattle has not been in the playoffs since 2001, the year they won 116 games. That is the longest drought in the majors.

And they've had a winning record 6 times since their last playoff team without being able to get in, including a pair of 93 win campaigns in 2002-03. A pretty hard luck accomplishment, especially given that they played most of that time in a four team division...

The hopes of Royals fans have been barbecued. Kansas City has been toastified. --Bob
