(shown in the first slot on 1/4/18)

Gregg Luchs
Scottsdale, AZ
Gregg is a cantor.
Gregg still has his 50/50

$100,000
While the first verse of "America the Beautiful" begins, "O beautiful for spacious skies," the next three verses begin "O beautiful for" all but which of these?
A: Heroes proved B: Pilgrim feet
C: Workers' toil D: Patriot dream

Gregg remembers singing every verse at one time in elementary school. He knows
Spoiler
Pilgrim feet is one of them and thinks Heroes proved and Patriot dream are the other two.

Spoiler
C: Workers' toil

$250,000
In 1969, what word became the first-ever attempted to be transmitted over an early version of the Internet—though only the first two letters made it through?
A: Host B: User
C: Login D: Access

Before this moment, Gregg didn't know an early version of the internet existed in 1969. He thinks
Spoiler
if only the first two letters made it through, instinctively he's drawn to User, as it would leave U-S. But if the whole word was being submitted, the first two letters would be an accident. He wonders if the early version of the internet required users to login

Spoiler
50/50 leaves User and Login.

To paraphrase Clint Eastwood, Gregg wonders if he's feelin' lucky.
Spoiler
Gregg guesses User.
The correct answer is C: Login
Gregg wins $50,000

First commercial break

No clue. I'd probably sing each one and be tempted to say Patriot dream doesn't have the right iamb pattern (unless you make Patriot only two syllables, which the author of this could easily have done)

Still have my +1. Tough decision to bring him up to have a better chance at $100,000 or take the free 1 in 4 shot and save him for $250,000...

I'd be completely lost. +1 if I still had it.

As I listened to him reasoning it out and saw his 50/50 results, I figured User/US was a red herring and I'd go Login

Given the controversy about kneeling during the anthem, there's been a lot of discussion about the lesser-known verses of the anthem.

This seems so obvious that I might well have second-guessed myself.

This would have been a dream question as the guy who was typing that in was a good friend of mine at UCLA, Charley Kline.

Not that good a friend. He has no clue who you are.
