Is his campaign platform "in character" or "out of character"? Makes a big difference, I bet! :)

From the link:
If he keeps gaining over 10% a week, Colbert should be leading the field before November is out.

His platform is "in character." Amazingly, and depressingly, there are people- one of Beloved Son's classmates, for instance- who don't get that it's a joke.

When his show started, I figured he was good for about 6 months, tops. There was no way, I thought, he could sustain such a schtick and keep people watching.

His genius, and I mean that word, is that he has created this character, but has his genuine intelligence and likability peeking around behind it, so anyone who wants to be in on the gag can be in on it.

The last guy I saw who was this good and this smart on TV was Steve Allen.
I am about 25% sure of this.

Even Emma knew that he was running. She told me when I got home from my trip that he was on the ballot in South Carolina. Usually she doesn't care about politics.

I remember when he last ran in 1992. Pretty interesting having two comedians (the other, Ross Perot) in the field that year.

Interestingly, I was reading a detailed article about how his campaign is violating federal election laws.

It is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

My guess is that he will be gone within a few weeks, as Viacom does not want to risk things.
