Texas Schools Do Something Right

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Apr 11, 2019 1:54 pm

I'm sure BiT will be happy to hear I'm giving his home state a nod for something besides his current Congressperson.

But beginning next fall, elementary schools will be required to teach cursive writing to students. By fourth grade, students will be expected to know how to write their assignments legibly in cursive. It's amazing how many people get through school without ever learning to sign their name today. I hope this trend catches on; you can't always text your way through life. I hope this trend catches on in other states.

This should have never been taken out of the curriculum. We were pissed when they did it. I have two kids that went through school after they pulled it from the curriculum.

Are there other states where cursive is no longer taught?

Apparently, a growing minority of states require cursive to be taught after it was pretty much removed about a decade ago:

I'm not going to try to track down exactly how many states now require it.

I never realized it was a wide spread thing. I guess my daughter shouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage if all her peers are in the same boat. My son did learn it in 5th grade.
