Just for completeness:

Spoiler
A: La Brea means "the tar". I believe the word origin is from words relating to bray like a donkey. That seems odd until you discover those words were also used for flatulence and hence "stinky".
B: Rio Grande is the "big river".
C: Alcatraz means "pelican" probably derived from the Arabic "al gattas" or "the diver." Some people connect it to "al qatras" which sounds similar and is Arabic for albatross. There seems to have been some back and forth between the language on those words and "albatros" may have been modified by the Spanish to get "albus" or "white" in there for the albatross and then the word made its way back to Arabic. It it pretty clear that the Spanish named the island for the pelicans.
D: Sierra Nevada is "snowy mountain range". Sierra comes from the word for "cut" and later the tool "saw".
No matter where you go, there you are.

That 20K question is flawed. The FEC reported turnout to be around 54.7%: http://www.fec.gov/pubrec/fe2016/2016presgeresults.pdf

I'm not disputing that number but where in that report do you see 54.7%?

I see a Total of 136,669,237 votes cast. It is not clear to me if they are including the write-in total of 699,366 but I would guess that they are.

Either way, what was the total number of eligible voters?

http://www.electproject.org/2016g

This is not the FEC but the United States Election Project says that turnout was 60.2% of eligible voters for the election overall with 59.3% for the Presidential race. They give 54.7% if you use the total Voting Age population instead. Obviously not everyone over 18 is eligible.

The USEP uses 230,585,915 for the eligible voters compared to 250,055,734 for the voting age population and 136,700,729 for the numbers of ballots cast in the Presidential race. That is actually higher than the FEC number.

If you use the FEC number that works out about right.

136,669,237 divided by 230,585,915 is 59.3% so that matches up for the Presidential race. The 60.2% number is probably right for the election overall.
No matter where you go, there you are.
