This might be a well-known proverb, but it's not Biblical. The actual Biblical quote (from the KJV) is "Pride goeth before destruction and an haughty spirit before a fall". It's one of several oft-misquoted Biblical sayings.

Since earendel made a picky (IMHO) comment, I feel more comfortable to make one too, about this question from Muffy's carryover:

"New York, New York" has a special meaning for me (see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45605) but it isn't an official song; the state song is "I Love New York." And it's only been played at the Belmont Stakes since 1997, which is hardly traditional for a 150-year-old event.
