New Wright/Obama Ad on Air in Mississippi

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Mon Apr 28, 2008 8:27 am

A new TV commercial tying Barack Obama to Rev. Wright is airing is Mississippi, but you can bet you won't hear any internal criticism from other Republicans about this one.

The Republican candidate for the special election for the House seat in Mississippi's first Congressional district has criticized his Democratic opponent for supposedly not sharing Mississippi's values by having endorsed Obama. This is a highly Republican district represented by Roger Wicker until he was appointed to fill Trent Lott's Senate seat. Wicker won his last election with 66% of the vote, his closest call in years.

However, the Democratic candidate in the special election actually outpolled the Republican and came within a couple of hundred votes of winning the seat outright (for some strange reason there were actually two Dems and two Reps on the ballot, despite there having been a primary a few weeks earlier for both parties). More people voted for the two Dems than the two Reps.

The Republican party is very worried about losing this seat in what should be a very safe district and the anti-Obama ad reflects this. The election is May 13, so we'll have to see what happens. BTW, Hillary Clinton actually carried this district against Obama in the March primary.

And if the Democrat wins the election, he will become a superdelegate presumably backing Obama.
