Congratulations Danica Roem

Danica Roem has been elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, defeating 26-year incumbent Republican Bob Marshall, one of the most socially conservative legislators in Virginia. Delegate-elect Roem will become the first openly transgender legislator in the United States. Marshall consistently refused to acknowledge her identity as a woman.

The networks have already called the New Jersey governor's race for Murphy. In Virginia, it looks like Northam is leading comfortably and that Democrats will sweep all three statewide offices on the ballot. Democrats also are on track to pick up a lot of seats in the House of Delegates. It's looking like an electoral bloodbath. --Bob

A map in which my preferred candidate won 3 million more votes than her opponent? Curious example.

The Democrats will flip between 13 and 18 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates (with 17 necessary to secure control). They will take complete control of the Washington Legislature. The New Jersey Governor's race was a blowout, as expected, and the Virginia governor's race wasn't particularly close. --Bob

The hits keep on coming!
Democrat Manka Dhingra just won the special election in Washington, flipping control of the state Senate from red to blue.

In Georgia, State Democrats flipped three GOP-held legislative seats, including breaking a Republican super-majority in the state Senate.

In New Hampshire, Erika Connors became the fourth New Hampshire Democrat to flip a Republican seat blue in special elections this year.

And I got a bit of payback this time around. My Republican State Senator (who lost as one of the Republicans running for the Sixth Congressional District) had to resign his seat to run for governor, so a special election was held yesterday. Like the Congressional race, everyone was on the same ballot, regardless of party. There will be a runoff ... featuring two Democrats, so that's one assured pickup for the next Legislature. Democrats also picked up two House seats here in Georgia as well.

And in Virginia, where the Democrats faced almost a 2 to 1 deficit in the House of Delegates, it looks like they picked up 16 seats to pull into a 50-50 tie (they were hoping for a gain of 6-8 seats).

All in all a very good night across the country.

These two won seats on the school board in spite of the best intentions from their opposition:

Actually, the T20 format of cricket is pretty entertaining (and usually only runs about 3 hours).

Funny, when I was trying to start soccer leagues here in 1980, I was hearing the same thing about soccer fields.

I'd like to get Flock's opinion of this flyer. He seems to feel that there is no racism in the Republican party anymore.

How about mine? I see no official "Paid for by..." or campaign identifier. This was likely done by someone's child living in a basement. No one knows the party affiliation of the author.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the author was a supporter of one of these candidates if not one of these candidates themselves.

I grew up in Menlo Park/Iselin/Edison area. Yes, this area has become Little India. I haven't been back in a long time, so I can't really comment on specifics, but I've heard complaints about lack of assimilation. As per the flier, I agree with BiT.
But even so, this flier raises, although badly presented, a valid question in the election. This in no way compares to that ad implying a candidate wants to run over your kid because his/her skin is not the right color.

Whoever did it, they paid some money to mail these out and got the local prosecutors interested:

Here's a compendium of ads for Republican candidates, every one of whom lost last night:

What I hadn't realized is that the guy Del.-elect Roem defeated is the same guy who wrote a bathroom bill for Virginia.

As hermillion's intended wrote on Facebook, our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Republican officeholders who lost their jobs last night. --Bob
