RIP David Cassidy

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Mon Nov 20, 2017 8:19 am

It hasn't been confirmed yet--which is why I'm holding off on the "RIP" header--but a couple of sources close to the family say that the 1970s teen idol passed away yesterday afternoon.

He was rushed to the hospital on Saturday. He was diagnosed with multiple organ failure and placed in a medically-induced coma.

Unlike with that cult leader who shan't be named, I hope this death rumor is false.

(Edited header on confirmation. --Fireball)

He's now dead. :(

I didn't realize he was my age, two months older.

Definitely a teenage crush. I loved the Partridge Family.

My Mom knew some really fun people when we lived in Newport RI in the late 60s and early 70s before we moved out to Hawaii. That included someone who knew the Cowsills. They were the inspiration for the Partridge Family.

We got to go to the house (mansion) they were at when they were practicing one day. It was awesome!

Earlier this year we went to an oldies show which included, among others, The Cowsills. 3 of them anyway. Several of them have passed and 1 (John) only appears with them on occasion. Susan, Bob and Paul Cowsill are the consistently touring members. After the show we were waiting at the back of the auditorium for the crowd to die down a bit so that I didn't have to fight through it in my chair. Out in the lobby tables had been set up for a couple of the artists to sign autographs, take pictures with folks, etc. While we were loitering...I mean, waiting to exit, the Cowsills came up the aisle on their way to one of the tables. We just acknowledged them and told them they sounded great (which was no lie-their harmonies were perfect and although they were not the headliners, they easily sounded the best of all 6 acts). Instead of just thanking us and moving on, they stopped and talked with us fir a good 10 minutes. I think Paul would've been happy to talk all night, actually. They were about as nice as you could ask for, and considering we weren't in line to buy a cd to get autographed or anything, it was "above and beyond" for sure. VERY nice people, and vocally they haven't lost a step.

My Mom goes to the Cowsills shows (They've recently been part of the Happy Together tour) every time they come through or near town since they were her favorite band back in the day. They make a point of always being available for their fans after the show... something that caused a bit of an argument between Mom and a security guy at one of the local casinos who assured her there would be no meet and greet. Mom won that argument. She's enough of a groupie.... er, regular now that at least one of them (can't remember which one) recognized her at the last show she went to. I'm not much on their music, but for being a band that was once a big name, they are by all accounts extremely approachable for their fans...

Rest in peace, David. You've earned it.

BTW, other than Shirley Jones and David Cassidy, the rest of "The Partridge Family" were members of the famous studio musicians group, The Wrecking Crew.

This could be clearer. Spiff is referring to the PF music recordings (both on albums and for the show itself), where only Shirley Jones and David Cassidy sang. Music was by the Wrecking Crew and backing vocals were by several other musicians.

RIP, David. I watched you every week, but was much more interested in your sister than you. :)

Yeah, I hear ya brother. Marcia Brady was around my age, but Laurie Partridge was the super-hot "older woman". I would've sat through a soundtrack of tone deaf orangutans in order to gaze at Susan Dey.

Full disclosure, however: I always kinda liked "I Think I Love You".

Exactly. When I first saw that the Family Album was available on CD, I bought it, purely for nostalgia's sake. "I Think I Love You" knocked my socks off. Again. I hadn't heard it in, probably, 30 years, but I realized why it was so popular.

I even liked the cover by Voice of the Beehive:

I liked Shaun Cassidy. If I'd had a poster on my bedroom wall, it would've been him. And Mark Hamill.
