The other abbreviations I know, but what's "Jpos"? Thanks. --Bob

Jpos is the average score (JAWS) of all hall of famers at that position.

Martinez
Clemens
Schilling
Chipper
Thome

Why Clemens but not Bonds? I don't think there's any doubt that their on-field performances are both far above the usual standard for the Hall of Fame so I imagine the issue is PEDs. But if that's the case, I think of both players as similarly situated. I'm wondering what differences you see. --Bob

Hard to say exactly, but some thoughts:

Some of my vote is about character. Bonds rubs me the wrong way, juice or no juice. Clemens would have done enough to get there even without it.

I have possibly a mistaken understanding that anabolic steroids are not as much help to pitchers as they are hitters.

And it's not that I have any warm fuzzies for Clemens, who is as big an asshole as anyone. But I do appreciate people who chew up their share and more of innings.

I must have been the only person in my workplace who hated this most recent World Series. Hardly anyone can pitch anymore. 13-12 in extra innings is just not good baseball to me. I want people to damn pitch, and for someone to win 2-1 on a steal. And for the game to be over in 2:15. And get off my lawn.

If I had a vote
Guerrero by a nose
Martinez if no, then no Ortiz-ever!
Clemens, b/c a-holes can be in the hall
Bonds, b/c hating the press s/b tangential, 'skinny' Bonds was HOF quality imo, If Bud is in, then Juice is irrelevant, also, see Clemens
Schilling see Clemens - juice
Walker b/c the injuries balance out the Rockies factor
C Jones b/c duh!
Thome b/c lifetime OPS+ = 147 while playing into his 40s
Santana b/c he is Koufax - 300+ inning seasons
A Jones b/c defense matters and you can't hold the love to play against someone

If i'm voting (which I'm not):

Trevor Hoffman (After Mariano, best reliever of his generation)
Roger Clemens
Barry Bonds
Sammy Sosa (With Bud Selig, who knowingly looked the other way during the steroids era now in the Hall, we have to live with what he wrought)
Chipper Jones (One of top 5 3B ever)
Jim Thome (600+ home runs has to be automatic)

If Edgar had even owned a glove during his career I would consider him.
I'm on the fence on Manny
I think Vlad was overrated

Edgar played about 4 full seasons in the field. He owned a glove.

My hypothetical votes would go to:

Hoffman
Guerrero
Martinez
Clemens
Bonds
Wagner
Larry Jones
Thome
Rolen

I'm on the fence about Andruw Jones. --Bob

Even with Bud in the Hall, I think it's appropriate to penalize the people who were caught violating the rules after MLB began enforcing them. I don't consider it disqualifying (ARod will still get my hypothetical vote when the time comes), but in Manny's case it's enough to get me off that particular fence.

As for Sosa, gaudy HR numbers notwithstanding I just don't think his career was good enough to merit induction. --Bob
