SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A jury on Thursday found a Mexican man not guilty of murder in the killing of a woman on a San Francisco pier that touched off a national immigration debate two years ago.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate had been deported five times and was wanted for a sixth deportation when Kate Steinle was fatally shot in the back while walking with her father on the pier.

Garcia Zarate did not deny shooting Steinle and said it was an accident.

Donald J. Trump wrote:A disgraceful verdict in the Kate Steinle case! No wonder the people of our Country are so angry with Illegal Immigration.
Hard to argue with that. But hours earlier he tweeted:

Does he know that the Holy Family were refugees?

and technically, they were not Christians, so he probably would have put them on the travel ban.

Illegal immigrants are not the same as refugees.

You don't have to live like a refugee, but it's also no fun being an illegal alien....

Kate Steinle’s death is considered an acceptable sacrifice

They weren't there illegally. They were required to be there for the census.

Plus they hadn't already been deported multiple times or convicted of crimes.

Do you consider Zarate a refugee?

Gee, in all the discussion of the case when the shooting happened, I didn't hear/read what I just read, that Steinle was killed by a bullet that ricocheted off a pier.

Maybe I *do* live in a box.

So Zarate was guilty of a lot of things (having gun unlawfully, firing it unlawfully*) but not aiming it & firing it at Steinle.

auto-co-wreck just turned "gun" to "fun". I am not kidding you. Hope I've successfully turned it back.

*he claims he found gun wrapped in a cloth & it fired as he unwrapped it; haven't yet read up on what verdict says about that

And how many acceptable sacrifices did we have in Las Vegas to appease the NRA?

If Joe or Jane Unlucky, American citizen, had found a gun & either fired it at a pier or had it accidentally go off, would Trump & others be in an uproar?

What if Joe or Jane Unlucky was a child?

Lots of kids get killed by other kids playing with guns.

Illegal immigrants are not the same as refugees.
Trump thinks there's no difference.

Zarate is an illegal immigrant, not a refugee. Sorry if I sounded like I was comparing him to Jesus! I quoted Trump's earlier tweet because his travel ban affects refugees too. Jesus and his family fled to Egypt to escape a tyrant who reminds me of the Assad family. And during his ministry he cared about the downtrodden that the Trumps of his day disdained.

Technically Joseph and Mary weren't refugees. They were moving from one Roman province (Judaea) to another (Egypt). And although they were not Roman citizens, they did have the right to move across provincial borders. Moreover there was a large Jewish community in Alexandria, where they could have found shelter.

My guess is the Haitian refugees don't really catch the distinction. Either way it is don't let the door hit you in the ass.
