Amtrak train falls on to I-5 in Washington state.

Between Tacoma and Olympia. "Mass casualty incident." :shock:

It was the inaugural day for that stretch of track.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

There were fatalities but there were only 70 on the train. I'm sure cars of the freeway were involved though.

It was the inaugural run of the train, not the track.

Looking at the aerial photo, it seems the cause may have been that the train was going too fast for the curve. It's supposed to have positive train control so shouldn't have been going faster than the speed limit, but perhaps that was too high even though they conducted extensive testing.

The noon news showed an aerial view. It's much worse than the view from road level showed. :( They say at least 6 dead. :cry:

The curve speed limit was 30. Apparently the positive train control was disabled or failed.
