RIP Dick Enberg

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Fri Dec 22, 2017 3:54 am

Long time announcer of just about every major sport, working for NBC, CBS, ESPN, and most recently as the voice of the San Diego Padres. For years, he and Merlin Olsen were the primary NBC NFL announcers.

Age 82.

Oh, my! Sorry to hear about that. He was the voice of the Angels when I was a kid.

RIP, Dick. Touch 'em all!

He also hosted a handful of game shows back in the day, including the long-running and much-beloved Sports Challenge. I miss the days when ESPN and ESPN Classic would rerun that show.

I remember him as the UCLA basketball announcer during the Wooden dynasty. That's the last time I paid attention to ball sports.

Dick Enberg was slated to become the prime time host for NBC's coverage of the Moscow Olympics, along with Bryant Gumbel. But politics interfered...and NBC didn't win broadcasting rights again until 1988 in Seoul.
