RIP John Young

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:42 pm

Astronaut who walked on the moon and flew in the Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs. He was in the astronaut program for 42 years, the longest serving person in history. I felt a personal connection to Young because he came from my home town of Orlando, FL (there's a major highway named after him) and he attended Georgia Tech.

The story was that he had one bad grade at Georgia Tech, a D in a mechanical drafting course (which was required back then). After he went into space, the school offered to change the grade to an A but Young refused because he valued the integrity of the class.

Age 87.
