1. And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be

2. She was a friend to me when I needed one
Wasn't for her I don't know what I'd done
She gave me back something that was missing in me
She could of turned out to be almost anyone
Almost anyone

3. I know a place where we can
dance the whole night away
underneath the electric stars
Just come with me and we can
shake your blues right away

4. You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can

5. Baby, baby
As you stand holding me
Whispering how much you care
A thousand violins fill the air

6. If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters.

7. Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea

8. For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl

9. How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow

10. Got motion, restrained emotion.
I been driving uh, Detroit leaning.
No reason, just seems so pleasing.
Gonna make you, make you, make you notice

11. I'll bet she's beautiful
That girl he talks about
And she's got everything
That I have to live without

12. Ain't singing for Miller
Don't sing for Bud
I won't sing for politicians
Ain't singing for Spuds

She could of turned out to be almost anyone
Almost anyone

3. I know a place where we can
dance the whole night away
underneath the electric stars
Just come with me and we can
shake your blues right away

"dance the night away" is in On the Robert E. Lee by Neil Diamond, but the rest of it isn't familiar. I give up.

4. You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can

Beat It, Michael Jackson

5. Baby, baby
As you stand holding me
Whispering how much you care
A thousand violins fill the air

6. If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters.

Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen

7. Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea

1. And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be

Piano Man - Billy Joel

As much as I love the piano, this song has never done a lot for me. Then I saw the end of a Garth Brooks concert on Audience (I turned it over to watch what was on next) and he did a version with nothing but a guitar and it gave me smiles and chills at the same time. And I don't care for Garth Brooks (except for that song at the end of Frequency and only in that context) but there you have it....)

3. I know a place where we can
dance the whole night away
underneath the electric stars
Just come with me and we can
shake your blues right away

That Squirrel Could Sing - Jackson Browne

4. You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can

Beat It - Michael Jackson f/Wesley Snipes

I used Snipes because I figured all of the Pee Wee Herman jokes have been beaten (ha) to death by now....

5. Baby, baby
As you stand holding me
Whispering how much you care
A thousand violins fill the air

I Hear a Symphony - Diana Ross

I'm almost positive it was the Supremes but not 100 so I'm playing it safe with the Ozzy Osbourne rule....

6. If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Is this year's LSWE going to be sponsored by Queen? If so I'm glad you invited me to play. Yay!!!1

7. Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea

Unchained Melody - Willie Nelson

I have it on good authourity that this song got its title from the movie for which it was the theme. I had also totally forgotten that it was on my all time favourite Willie album (Stardust)
until just now when I heard his voice while I was reading the lyrics.

8. For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl

Brand New Key - Melanie

Which !!spoiler alert!! isn't actually about a skate key....

9. How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow

Minuet in GM - JS Bach

aka Lover's Concerto by The Toys. Damn, I really need to watch Mr. Holland's Opus again....

10. Got motion, restrained emotion.
I been driving uh, Detroit leaning.
No reason, just seems so pleasing.
Gonna make you, make you, make you notice

Brass in Pocket - Chrissie Hynde

I learned what the Detroit Lean was from Chrissie Hynde.....and the Florida Foot from Judge Judy

11. I'll bet she's beautiful
That girl he talks about
And she's got everything
That I have to live without

12. Ain't singing for Miller
Don't sing for Bud
I won't sing for politicians
Ain't singing for Spuds

This Note's for You - Neil Young

What subject is Charlie Brown's Teacher teaching today? (3 points)

Music, Music, Music

Fun Fact - Teresa Brewer and I share a birthday. Just the day not the year, smart ass....

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that could be included in today's lesson.

Grace Kelly - Mika

Years ago when my piano teacher was trying to explain grace notes to get me to play them properly she described them as like filigree on jewelry. It immediately clicked and from then on they were my favourite thing in music. Which is probably why I like Baroque and Romantic classical the best.

Image Bonus: Got a visual aid for the teacher's class?

My doll baby Sweet Pea playing my dad's steel guitar. As you can tell from those curtains,
this was c. 1976....

Spoiler
Dammit, I totally had planned to put The Pretenders, but I had Chrissie Hynde in my mind for my comment note and I didn't even catch it in proof. Thank Bowie for the Ozzy Rule....

Errgh, when my cursor was in the wrong place and it erased half of my Piano Man comment. I was answering #2 at the time and didn't even notice that it got wiped out as well as I went back to retype my comment. So the #2 answer is under the #3 clue. When I was reading the other answers, I wondered why I didn't see Rhythm of the Night and went to investigate. I blame Garth Brooks (and Obama....)!

Also check out my sweet Bassman 100 on the far right in the visual aid, that thing was taller than I was when the head was added to the cabinet. If you can believe it, that was the auxiliary music room. Most of the stuff was in the basement where there was a stage and everything for practices and jams. Good times....

BiT gets 2 JJC points for staff humor...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for knowing Mecca Muzak so well...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for rhythms and Seuss...

melly gets a JJC point for Bubba Squirrel...

frank gets a supermax for Kroxing Meaghan Trainor, and for Hollywood's best music teachers...

mrk gets a JJC point for picking out the Taylor Swift song...

TBone gets 3 JJC points for that Bugs Bunny image that I saw coming. I always felt so sorry for that poor sap having to hold that note for so long...

Beebs gets a supermax for being gross...

elwood gets 2 JJC points for the sound of silence (I'm gonna have to teach you how to grab an image off Google!)

Sprots gets a JJC point for answering the entire Melanie song...

Earl gets a supermax for screwing up, using the Phil Collins rule to death, Kroxing one of my favorite Mecca CD earworms, and for the Sweet Pea picture I remember being posted in the good ol' days...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for the best video to ever accompany a horrible song (The Femmes are not a fave), and for a meme I hadn't seen in years, but have now seen twice just this morning. It's weird how things work out that way...

I hereby bestow upon you one (1) JJC point for being the first one brave enough to say something. Or just the first one to give a crap. Either way, you're a winner!
