Lyrically Speaking - 1/26/18
For this weekend's game, I'm bringing back an old LSWE staple that some of you loved to hate. It's lyrically speaking in its simplest possible form.... the short phrases game! Below are twenty snippets of lyric no more than four words long that can be found in a song that achieved pop chart success or is otherwise well known, and which as far as I'm aware are unique to that song. This won't be easy, and I'm sure many of these clues will drive you mad trying to think of where you know them from... but you have three days! Make the most of the time!
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

Re: Lyrically Speaking - 1/26/18

For this weekend's game, I'm bringing back an old LSWE staple that some of you loved to hate. It's lyrically speaking in its simplest possible form.... the short phrases game! Below are twenty snippets of lyric no more than four words long that can be found in a song that achieved pop chart success or is otherwise well known, and which as far as I'm aware are unique to that song. This won't be easy, and I'm sure many of these clues will drive you mad trying to think of where you know them from... but you have three days! Make the most of the time!
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...
1. Invest a dime
So Happy Together -- The Turtles
2. The candidates debate
Mrs. Robinson -- Simon & Garfunkel
3. Alligator lizards
Ventura Highway -- America
4. Old ex-friend Ray
Operator -- Jim Croce
5. Hungry reggae
6. A beautiful oblivion
7. A pigeon from hell
8. Sounds loud or mellow
Takin' Care of Business -- Bachman-Turner Overdrive. A mondegreen for me, if I'm right. I always thought he was singing, "you can make sounds sort of mellow."
9. A celibate rope
10. An astral plane
Dreamweaver -- Gary Wright
11. Carniverous habits
Cheeseburger in Paradise -- Jimmy Buffett
12. So sick of books
Walk Like an Egyptian -- Bangles
13. Chromium steel
Allentown -- Billy Joel
14. Big brown Mercedes sedan
15. Tie his bootlace
Lady Madonna -- The Beatles
16. Spread your ear pollution
17. Boy Mercury
18. Bubble-headed bleach blonde
Dirty Laundry -- Don Henley. The version that Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie, did is actually not bad.
19. Boring and confiscated
Complicated -- Avril Lavigne
20. Knee-high to a man
Philadelphia Freedom -- Elton John
Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a small, likely unique piece of lyric, and include that lyric in your answer for an extra point.
After Jessie's Squirrel, which I used last time you ran this game (I think), my favorite source for unique lyrics is Roger Miller. So here's a chunk from England Swings:
"England swings like a pendulum do,
Bobbies on bicycles two by two,
Westminster Abbey, the tower of Big Ben
The rosy-red cheeks of the little children
Image Bonus: Take any one of the 20 snippets above and show me an image that would describe it (Please include which snippet you are using).
Not really trying for the IBB here, just wanted to pay tribute to the guy I was lucky enough to see last year in concert, and who announced his farewell tour last week:

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a small, likely unique piece of lyric, and include that lyric in your answer for an extra point. - As usual... I pretty much forgot I'd offered the bonus point when I went to score everyone's answers. I think I have all the extra points added in now (I basically +1'ed everyone's score except for Beebs since she doesn't know how to Krox...)
Image Bonus: Take any one of the 20 snippets above and show me an image that would describe it (Please include which snippet you are using). - Contrary to popular belief, you can not always win me over with a squirrel image... and I'm usually harder to please on such images since I know the players are trying to pander to me. But sometimes it actually does work, and so Anon gets his (I'm assuming) first IBB for the squirrel debate. I loved it!

"Some" people just silently correct it. Others point it out by claiming they're "not even going to point it out."Earl the Squirrel wrote:11. Carniverous habits
Cheeseburger in Paradise - Jimmy Buffett
Unlike "some" people, I'm not even going to point out the spelling error.....
