Lyrically Speaking - 1/26/18

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Jan 26, 2018 7:13 am

For this weekend's game, I'm bringing back an old LSWE staple that some of you loved to hate. It's lyrically speaking in its simplest possible form.... the short phrases game! Below are twenty snippets of lyric no more than four words long that can be found in a song that achieved pop chart success or is otherwise well known, and which as far as I'm aware are unique to that song. This won't be easy, and I'm sure many of these clues will drive you mad trying to think of where you know them from... but you have three days! Make the most of the time!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

Personal Story. The picture is of Manute Bol (7ft 7 in) and Spud Webb (5 ft 7 in) when both played on the Rhode Island Gulls, a development league team back in the 80's. They played in Newport RI and at the time I worked at a restaurant that the team liked to come to after games. I am shorter than Spud Webb and really did feel knee high to a man standing next to Manute Bol.

After Jessie's Squirrel, which I used last time you ran this game (I think), my favorite source for unique lyrics is Roger Miller. So here's a chunk from England Swings:

The rosy-red cheeks of the little children

Been an exhausting weekend and I still carried my notepaper around with me that I'd written all the lyrics on. For all the good it did me, I just know I'm at least three or four of these are going to hit me by tomorrow morning...

Spoiler
For this weekend's game, I'm bringing back an old LSWE staple that some of you loved to hate. It's lyrically speaking in its simplest possible form.... the short phrases game! Below are twenty snippets of lyric no more than four words long that can be found in a song that achieved pop chart success or is otherwise well known, and which as far as I'm aware are unique to that song. This won't be easy, and I'm sure many of these clues will drive you mad trying to think of where you know them from... but you have three days! Make the most of the time!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

I pretty much forgot I'd offered the bonus point when I went to score everyone's answers. I think I have all the extra points added in now (I basically +1'ed everyone's score except for Beebs since she doesn't know how to Krox...)

Image Bonus: Take any one of the 20 snippets above and show me an image that would describe it (Please include which snippet you are using). - Contrary to popular belief, you can not always win me over with a squirrel image... and I'm usually harder to please on such images since I know the players are trying to pander to me. But sometimes it actually does work, and so Anon gets his (I'm assuming) first IBB for the squirrel debate. I loved it!

Unlike "some" people, I'm not even going to point out the spelling error.....
"Some" people just silently correct it. Others point it out by claiming they're "not even going to point it out."
