Lyrically Speaking - 2/5/18

#1 Post by John Rocker » Mon Feb 05, 2018 7:47 am

Well, happy #@&* Monday everyone. Sorry to ruin your day, but that @#&*( LB asked me to host an LSWE game for him... and the #&@*( stuck me with this piece of #@&* game! The theme is $&@#*( New York City! Seriously!?!? We had to make three trips a year there back when a redneck was allowed to play #@&* Major League Baseball, and I swear to #@&*( God each one of those visits took a year and a half off my &#@*( life. Now that Chipper's a Hall of @#&*( Famer, he oughta be able to go back there and take a #*@& piss out in the middle of #@&* Times Square for all the #!@&*( abuse he had to put up with from those mangy New York @#*&() rejects. Oh, and speaking of #@$&*() wastelands from the NL East.... stay classy, you @#&*( Philly losers!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. He's kind of tall
He's really fine
Some day I hope to make him mine, all mine

2. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror,
And she glanced at the license for my name.
A smile seemed to come to her slowly,
It was a sad smile, just the same

3. Tonight's the night we'll make history. Honey you and I.
And I'll take any risk to tie back the hands of time,
And stay with you here tonight

4. I`ve been a bad, bad girl
I`ve been careless with a delicate man
And it`s a sad, sad world
When a girl will break a boy
Just because she can

5. People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away

6. One hand in the air for the big city
Street lights, big dreams, all lookin' pretty
No place in the world that could compare
Put your lighters in the air
Everybody say "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"

7. We don't need to talk about it anymore.
Yesterday's just a memory; can we close the door?
I just made one mistake,
I didn't know what to say when you called me baby

8. But no, no they're wrong, I know they are
'Cause I can play this here guitar
And I won't quit till I'm a star

9. Skies are crying, I am watching
Catching teardrops in my hands
Only silence as it's ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There's nothing left of me

10. You move it to the left
And you go for yourself
You move it to the right
Yeah if it takes all night

11. Below me was a homeless man
I'm singin' songs I knew complete
On the steps alone, his guitar in hand
It's fifty years, stood where he stands

12. And this is the end, they say you really mean it
This guy's the one that makes you feel so safe, so sane and so secure

5. People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away

Ferry Cross the Mersey - Gerry and the Pacemakers

Featuring that famed New York waterway...

6. One hand in the air for the big city
Street lights, big dreams, all lookin' pretty
No place in the world that could compare
Put your lighters in the air
Everybody say "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"

Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys & Jay-Z

7. We don't need to talk about it anymore.
Yesterday's just a memory; can we close the door?
I just made one mistake,
I didn't know what to say when you called me baby

High Enough - Damn Yankees

Dammit, as soon as I saw Styx upriver (ha!), I thought this would be safe. One of my all time favourite songs, as well as the video where I fell in love with Tommy Shaw aka Kitten Lady's dad

8. But no, no they're wrong, I know they are
'Cause I can play this here guitar
And I won't quit till I'm a star

On Broadway - George Benson

Catching teardrops in my hands
Only silence as it's ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There's nothing left of me

Skyscraper - Demi Lovato

10. You move it to the left
And you go for yourself
You move it to the right
Yeah if it takes all night

Harlem Shuffle - Rolling Stones

Another one where I'm going with the Stone remake, but on this one it's because I have no idea who did the original...

11. Below me was a homeless man
I'm singin' songs I knew complete
On the steps alone, his guitar in hand
It's fifty years, stood where he stands

12. And this is the end, they say you really mean it
This guy's the one that makes you feel so safe, so sane and so secure

The Worst That Could Happen - 5th Dimension

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a reference to New York City in either.

Slaughter on 10th Avenue - Mick Ronson

Hottie, come throuuuuughhhhh!!!!!!!11

I was going to use We'll Have Manhattan, but I wasn't sure if #1 was using NYC or Manhattan and didn't want to run afoul of the Exalted Krox Rules, plus I like to remain pure.....
