Outplayed . . .

#1 Post by SportsFan68 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 11:25 pm

My team didn't finish anywhere near first in the Charity Spelling Bee this year. It's not that we were beat by better spellers. It's that one of the best spellers in the room outplayed us. In the rules for this game, you can buy one pass to another team. This player passed "psittacism" to us. Definition is mechanical, repetitive, and meaningless speech. She'd never heard of it, so it's a cinch we hadn't either. But they got theirs in the next round when the eventual winners passed an impossible word to them. Best word of the night: snollygoster. Nobody ever heard of that one either.

-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

Snollygoster describes most of Congress.

Teach a child to be polite and courteous in the home and, when he grows up, he'll never be able to drive in New Jersey.
