Lyrically Speaking - 2/2/18

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 6:48 am

Today's Friday game pays tribute to everyone's favorite movie about Groundhog Day. Below are fifteen songs with lyrical snippets that you have certainly seen before in the LSWE. In fact, you saw them all in past February 2nd games, and hopefully learned from your original mistakes since you get to relive them again today. Since this week has been a part of all eleven LSWE seasons, I've had a game for every occurrence of 2/2 on a weekday sine 2008... which gave me plenty of material to draw from. Oddly enough, Troy Polymolyolygon has hosted two of those past Groundhog Day games... so why not make an excuse to bring him back for a third one? Because nobody wants to wake up every day and see that mess of hair...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. What's your name? Who's your daddy?
(He rich) Is he rich like me.

2. I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Only to be with you

3. Mary Hill used to love
To ride the merry-go-round
All the guys got eager eyes
Watching Mary go round

4. The moment that I step outside
So many reasons for me to run and hide
I can't do the little things I hold so dear
'Cause it's those little things that I fear

5. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

6. Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep
There's no escape from the music
In the whole damn street

7. take it to the bridge, throw it overboard
see if it can swim, back up to the shore.
no ones in the house, all the lights are on
and the blinds are down.

8. Well, I never used a phone booth
And I never seen my toes
When I'm going to the movies
I take up seven rows

9. Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

10. What used to take two hours
Now takes all day
It took me sixteen hours
To get to L.A.

11. Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please

12. Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

13. Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now

14. Concluding some terms
With a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland

15. I want to fuck you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside

O.K. That one made me laugh out loud.

Did you see where the shithead from Tomball, who killed the 3 family members on his 3rd DUI conviction, got 3 Lifes w/out parole, to run consecutively?

Update: Oops, I got my shitheads mixed up. It was a child molester who got the 3 lifes. The DUI murderer got 50 years. Darn.

No "seems" about it. I DO hear this every day. About 15 times a day, in fact. They run a "quit smoking" commercial around here where a bunch of different folks lip synch to "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. I hated that song to begin with, but now....I'm not sure my SANITY is gonna survive.

My wife has her country music station that seems to play the same songs every day, but danged if I know what the titles or artists are. There was one a couple months ago that we could not go more than a couple hours without hearing - You Look Good - Lady Antebellum

Spoiler
[quote="littlebeast13"]Today's Friday game pays tribute to everyone's favorite movie about Groundhog Day.

Time of the Season, Zombies

2. I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Only to be with you

Still haven't found what I'm looking for, U2

3. Mary Hill used to love
To ride the merry-go-round
All the guys got eager eyes
Watching Mary go round

Cherry Hill Park

4. The moment that I step outside
So many reasons for me to run and hide
I can't do the little things I hold so dear
'Cause it's those little things that I fear

5. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

6. Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep
There's no escape from the music
In the whole damn street

Squeeze Box

7. take it to the bridge, throw it overboard
see if it can swim, back up to the shore.
no ones in the house, all the lights are on
and the blinds are down.

8. Well, I never used a phone booth
And I never seen my toes
When I'm going to the movies
I take up seven rows

9. Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

In the living years, Mike and the Mechanics

10. What used to take two hours
Now takes all day
It took me sixteen hours
To get to L.A.

11. Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please

12. Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the USA, Springsteen

13. Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now

14. Concluding some terms
With a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Lightfoot

15. I want to fuck you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that it seems like you hear every single day.

For some reason, I have been hearing this every single day because RadioDude's been playing it every single day: Right Down the Line by Gerry Rafferty. I'll have to tell RadioDude I like Baker Street better.

Image Bonus: Show me what you saw when you first poked your head up out of your burrow this morning.

OK, that was Friday morning, with 7 a.m. Toastmasters. I looked for SuperMoon Day 3 but no luck.

Ok, not the first thing, but I do see the Animas River very soon after my day begins. This infamous photo made headlines and websites all over the country a couple years ago and made people think the thin air isn't the only element affecting our brains around here. This shows the results of a mine spill into one of our, fortunately not only, water sources. Below is a photo showing the cause of another mine spill from the 70s, which in my opinion was worse, but it wasn't as luridly colored as the top photo. After having mill tailings dumped into it for decades, the bottom of Lake Emma broke through into an old mining tunnel and poured thousands of gallons of heavy metal tainted water into the Animas River system. It turned the river a horrible leaden gray, versus garish orange, which is probably why people think the later event was worse.

I have to confess that my image is not literally the first thing I saw. The first thing I do after pouring my cup of coffee is play my Learned League game(s) for the day. I knew the Times had done an article about LL, so I googled it, then clicked images, and that one was the first one there. And it was associated with the actual article! I don't know if they actually had that GIF on their digital version of the article, or what, but it was too good not to use.

But....but....what about those of us (okay, me) that haven't been here for several Februarys? Can you kindly direct me to the office where I can file my protest?

And if I have to wake up every day and see a mess of hair, nobody else should get a pass (ha!), either. Sadly, I'm not seeing the glorious mess I did once upon a time. My dad's nickname for me in the morning was The Wreck of the Hesperus. I miss that so much....

I'm also tired from the Super Bowl, so this must serve as my extraneous commentary. Speaking of the Big Game, could Collinsworth be any further up the Patriot's ass? I've never noticed that about him before, but it reached points of ridiculousity and I normally like his announcing. Maybe that's why I'm so tired, all that eye rolling...

The weird thing is sometimes fudge pops out of it. There's fudge with nuts & there's fudge with corn. That's an interesting combination.
